What do I need to be a Star?

GitHub Stars are a diverse set of individuals that inspire, educate, and influence those around them. They are experts and technical leaders who passionately share their expertise with others. From open source innovators and content creators to speakers and offline community leaders, they can be from anywhere, pursuing any project.

What types of contributions in the community are you looking for?

We’re looking for potential Stars who have a mixture of contributions with the GitHub community. A few examples: websites, blogs, in-person events, offline community events, usergroups, videos, podcasting, open source contributions.

How can I become a GitHub Star?

To become a GitHub Star, you need to be nominated by someone else. All they need to do is submit a nomination, which includes details on why we should consider you as a Star. Once you’re nominated, we’ll do a pre-check. If successful, we’ll email you with details on next steps (please note this can take up to 90 days).

How long will I be a Star?

The Stars program runs from January 31st of the year you were invited to the Stars program to January 30th the year after you were invited. Stars will be reviewed for renewal each year.
