Then, over on Twitter, user NikTek shared a clip outside of Novigrad, with a lot of the same graphics glitches, only this time when he goes into the river, the surface of the water starts blinking like a strobe light.

If you're on AMD, don't bother playing the game until AMD releases the new drivers because it doesn't work

For now we have the ultra glitchy special limited edition https://t.co/tJ2CR8CoX4 pic.twitter.com/sY63MQuRYU
— NikTek (@NikTek) September 29, 2026

The common factor among all of these issues is AMD Radeon graphics cards. CD Projekt Red does seem to be aware of the problems, and has posted on x / Twitter recommending players upgrade their graphics driver to a supported version. For now, though, the problem is that the supported Radeon driver, Adrenalin 26.9.2, has not yet been released. The most recent Radeon driver, Adrenalin 26.8.1, was released on August 20.

For anyone trying to play The Witcher 3 Remastered on an AMD graphics card right now, the best option is to just wait for AMD to release its new driver. It's not clear why CD Projekt Red released the game without making sure it works on existing AMD drivers, but it's possible that the Radeon driver was delayed. I've reached out to both AMD and CD Projekt Red for comment on this, and I'll update this story if and when I hear anything.

But regardless of temporary glitches on AMD hardware, the remastered version of The Witcher 3 comes with a whole host of gameplay and graphics improvements that really bring the game into the current generation. Well, wonder no more, because to coincide with the game’s two-year anniversary, publisher Focus Entertainment has revealed all the juicy details.

In a post on its forum, Focus revealed that Tactical was the preferred class in PvE during the last year, picked 44.4 million times. This is ahead of Bulwark in second, Assault in third, Heavy in fourth, Vanguard in fifth, and Techmarine in sixth.

Looking at the image above, you might be left wondering, what about the Sniper class? It's mysteriously absent from the list. Space Marine 2's ranged damage specialist has a Camo Cloak ability that lets him turn nearly invisible. Is Sniper "cloaked" in the image?

Alas no. I asked Focus what happened here, and was told the team wanted to focus on the top six PvE classes, and Sniper came in just behind the Techmarine with 20 million times picked. Poor Sniper! I would have thought the Techmarine would have been in last place due to it being a DLC class, but it just goes to show how unpopular Sniper is (or should we say how popular Techmarine is?) that it finds itself in sixth place.

The thing is, the Sniper is actually a powerful class, but it's certainly not as accessible as the others, and can be fiddly to get the most out of. While it can dish out huge damage to single targets, Space Marine 2 is at its core about getting stuck in and smashing tons of enemies. The Sniper sort of feels out of place.

Bulwark being near the top doesn’t surprise me at all, given it plays a pivotal role in keeping your group of Space Marines alive with its recovery and healing abilities (also it’s just damn cool, yes I am a Bulwark player). But why is Tactical top? There are a few reasons. It has access to melta weapons, which are amazing in this game, as well as the boss-melting Pyreblaster primary weapon. But the key here is the Tactical’s signature class ability, the Auspex Scan, which is used to reveal and heavily debuff enemies in a targeted area. This is a game-changing ability, particularly on higher difficulty levels, and for many players an essential part of any high-level PvE group.

So, Tactical wins out, even though I’ll always favor my beloved Bulwark.

Most-played classes in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2:

Tactical: 44.4 million times picked

Bulwark: 40.1 million times picked

Assault: 33.3 million times picked

Heavy: 30.4 million times picked

Vanguard: 27.4 million times picked

Techmarine: 22.3 million times picked

Sniper: 20 million times picked

While there are some clear winners on this list, I think Space Marine 2 does a decent job of making each class viable at most difficulty levels. Part of the fun of this game is trying out the various classes and their special abilities, so it’s certainly a good thing that you can get by with any combo most of the time.

This time next year the list may be slightly different, given Space Marine 2’s Year 3 roadmap includes the Apothecary class for early 2027. It will be interesting to see if it can nudge ahead of the Techmarine when the dust settles.

Meanwhile, developer Saber recently admitted that the Chaos enemies are harder to fight than the Tyranids in Space Marine 2, and confirmed plans to do something about it.

Guillermo Del Toro Reveals He Tried to Adapt BioShock Into a Movie, but 'Disastrous' Phone Call Ended the Project Before It Began

Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro confirmed that he was involved in early concepts for a BioShock movie, but said the project was ultimately scrapped after a “disastrous” phone call.

Acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro confirmed that he was involved in early concepts for a BioShock movie, but said the project was ultimately scrapped after a “disastrous” phone call.

Speaking with IGN as part of the IGN30 Icons Series, del Toro admitted that he “never” wants to make a video game again — and while he was previously open to adapting existing games into films, his last attempts at doing so ended in disaster.

It’s been long-rumored that del Toro was involved in a movie adaptation of Bioshock that never got off the ground. Back in 2017, he even admitted that he’d love to see the game’s story brought to the silver screen after a previous attempt, with Gore Verbinski attached, never got made.

Years later, he has officially confirmed his relationship with a BioShock adaptation, though it never saw the light of day — and it seems there was some drama behind its premature demise.

“You know, I tried,” he told us when asked if he’d ever want to make a film adaptation of a game. “We had a very contentious call about a couple of games. I find that the dynamics of a video game are very different than a movie. They may be cinematically similar in terms of the camera moving and this and that, but the storytelling is very different, because you're not solving puzzles. You're not assembling.

“When we made the structure for Insane, we created what I call a mandala. You have to give the illusion of an infinite sandbox and you lead audiences to the right or to the left through their ‘own decisions,’ but you sort of have to corner them. So it's a very different thing.

“So adapting it, Bioshock, we had a couple of calls. They are probably one of the most disastrous calls I've ever had. So no, f**k no.”

While he didn’t go into detail about what made these calls so “contentious” and “disastrous,” the conversations seem to have put a sour taste in his mouth — which is a shame, because a BioShock movie with del Toro at the helm sounds like the best thing since sliced bread.

It’s one of his favorite games, after all, a fact that he also shared with us in this same interview. It’s one of several titles that he listed off the cuff, though not the most surprising one; that title goes to Angry Birds, which del Toro says he plays almost every day.

And although Del Toro has been involved with several major video games over the years (PT, Death Stranding), he told us he’s hesitant to make his own games after Insane, his planned trilogy of dark, cinematic games, never got released.

“Never again,” he told us. “No, not at all, because it's simply too — we developed Insane, and then that went down. A lot of the ideas later, I saw stuff that was done in other video games that was similar. And I went, ‘Well, somebody did it. That's great.’ But we were aiming really high.”

Speaking of PT and Death Stranding, The Pan’s Labyrinth creator has expressed no shortage of love for Kojima’s games, calling him a “pure artist” and admitting that the grand majority of PT was entirely Kojima's idea.

“I mean, I'm glad to get on the ride for free, but everything that ended up being PT, it was him,” he said. “…I love that man. He's one of those guys you meet that you go, you might as well be in the Renaissance. You are in front of a pure artist and he cares about one thing, stories. That's it.”

Our full, extended interview with Guillermo del Toro is available to watch now. A little more than one week after the film's premiere, Nexus Mods user D0ct0rSauce has unveiled a Bryan skin, a mod that allows players to keep the unfortunate courier's horrific run through Raccoon City going in Resident Evil 2.

While Abrams is the one delivering Bryan's shrieks and screams throughout Resident Evil's hour-and-a-half runtime, this fan-made version of the character isn't quite as detailed. This is more like a PlayStation 1-inspired version of the character, breaking him down to just a few simple polygons as a replacement for Leon's retro skin. Fans have spent decades wondering why The Elder Scrolls never got the same spinoff treatment as Fallout has, but he said there's a pretty specific reason why that's the case.

"The whole New Vegas thing did create this, at least the perception of this, 'Who makes a better Fallout game? Oh, they should just give it to Obsidian’," Kuhlmann said. "There are the Obsidian, the New Vegas people, that think obviously New Vegas is way better, Obsidian is way better at making those games, and why don’t they just get Fallout altogether?"

Kuhlmann isn't sure "that Todd wanted to create that situation again for The Elder Scrolls." He added, "Todd, from my time there, he is very protective of it."

The ex-Bethesda developer continued, saying he thinks ZeniMax Online Studios' The Elder Scrolls Online "did take the heat off of that" idea. The multiplayer offshoot, which launched in 2014, is quite different from the franchise's typical single-player outings, but it's still managed to carve out its own place in its history.

"There are a lot of people for whom The Elder Scrolls is now ESO," Kuhlmann explained. "That's their experience with it. That's what they love, and that's where they got their Elder Scrolls gaming experience, and that's probably what they want more of.

"I do think that ESO was the, 'We're doing something with Elder Scrolls. Makes sense, considering the walls of the building are full of the corpses of homeless people. You can wishlist it now on Steam, ready for its release later this fall.

Unlike most of the clearing clutter genre, Something is Wrong With the Library stands out because it appears to have a (deeply messed up) story to go with all the chores. You play as the library's former administrator, Phillip Shed, who has one night to organize the books and deal with the gory consequences of the bodies in the walls. Most double XP tokens last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Now, Infinity Ward is making it so the double XP timer only works when you're actively in a match. That means you'll get a lot more usage out of them!

More time to make your 2XP count.

Tokens will count down in game time and your existing tokens will be usable starting in Modern Warfare 4. pic.twitter.com/AZNVBdLVc9
— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) September 28, 2026

This is just one of many changes Infinity Ward is implementing to show that it's listening to fans ahead of Modern Warfare 4's launch. Last week, the studio confirmed it would also be adding a toggle to allow players the ability to turn off skins. So, if you don't want to see someone's obnoxious skin, you no longer have to be subjected to that. Instead, they'll be shown as a default character model.

Some fans are hoping that these changes will lead to bigger ones, such as major adjustments to skill-based matchmaking. Whether that happens remains to be seem, but it seems like Activision is trying to woo fans as much as it cans as it enters arguably its most competitive launch window in years. Call of Duty will have to contend with the GTA 6 this fall, a game that will be a black hole when it comes to media coverage, engagement, and overall spending. Whether that hurts Call of Duty in the long run will be interesting to see.

The MSI Codex Z2C RTX 5070 Prebuilt Gaming PC Drops to $1399 and Includes Control: Resonant

Excellent prebuilt option for 1080p and 1440p gaming, and it's capable enough to run games in 4K as well.

B&H Photo is offering a solid deal on a prebuilt desktop computer that excels at 1080p and 1440p gaming. It's not the fastest or newest AMD CPU, but it's still a solid gaming CPU that won't bottleneck the GPU, especially at the higher resolutions you should be playing at if you own a 5070 Ti. But it seems like Chris Wilson, former co-founder of Path of Exile developer Grinding Gear Games, is tentatively excited for Blizzard's next ARPG.

Wilson, who left Grinding Gear Games in 2023, released a video over the weekend where he broke down everything Blizzard has announced about the upcoming Diablo game, from its story to itemization and monster levels. And while he did have some nitpicks, it seems like he's cautiously optimistic that the Diablo series is headed in the right direction, because of the influence the seminal Diablo 2 seems to have on it so far.

Wilson is particularly fond of the new character and inventory screen, where items once again boast different sizes, along with stats that are more in line with Diablo 2. However, there are some modern choices, such as a flat DPS number on weapons, that rub him the wrong way. Still, he recognizes that Diablo 5 can't fully embrace Diablo 2's at-times clunky design.

"There's a bigger question if they're going to go all the way and risk alienating the modern audience that they've cultivated over the last couple of decades," he said. "I don't think they necessarily should. While selfishly it'd be amazing for them to make a new version of Diablo 2 just for me, I don't think they could justify an investment of that size for a game with a niche audience."

Instead, Wilson expects that Diablo V will try to adopt the best of both worlds, with a "modern ARPG that borrows heavily from Diablo 2, rather than a true return to the design philosophy of Diablo 2."

But even though the game is still a couple years away, according to Blizzard, Wilson thinks Diablo 5 is going to end up delayed. He says, "My best guess is the game won't be ready for spring 2029, but that's okay, delays happen and are normal in this industry. I can't count the amount of times I had to delay a Path of Exile League release and players were okay with it."

If anything, delaying Diablo 5 would give Diablo 4 more room to breathe. Just like a lot of players, Wilson feels like the early announcement of D5 is a sign that Blizzard is abandoing Diablo 4 – even if Blizzard itself has denied that in an interview with PC Gamer. Instead, Blizzard is going to keep developing the story with new seasons, the latest of which is a 30-year celebration of the franchise.

I've already spent almost 50 hours in Season 15 alone, and have been having a blast with all the nostalgic content Blizzard added this time around. Chris Wilson is less amused by it, saying, "To be honest, this event feels pretty distasteful to me," because "Diablo 4 was slowly building up to you being able to fight all the prime evils, then they introduce them all at once in a special event that isn't really tied to the games story."

Regardless, new seasons will continue to filter out to Diablo 4 over the next year and a half. Blizzard will also be adding Diablo 2's Amazon class to the game in a DLC pack early next year. Speaking of classes, the company has also revealed a handful of the classes coming to Diablo 5, and that at launch the new game will apparently have more classes available than in any previous Diablo game. I'm just hoping they bring back the Demon Hunter from Diablo 3.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past EP Drops, Giving First Taste of New Music from the Expansion

Milan Records has released a five-track EP of new original music from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's upcoming Songs of the Past expansion. The leak originated on 4Chan and revealed a bunch of details that have actually since been confirmed. Perhaps one of the most notable bits is that Rockstar once planned to have four protagonists in GTA 6, but eventually settled on two, which was recently confirmed by Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson. However, it is worth noting that this tidbit was also buried in a report from Axios a year prior to the 4Chan leak, as well.

The post went on to reveal details about the game's relationship mechanic, which has also since been confirmed, and teased some spoilers that have been loosely corroborated in other legitimate leaks in recent years. However, the reason people are digging this post back up is because it claims that Rockstar's next game is a sequel to LA Noire, set to release in 2030.

The game would be set in San Francisco and center around the Zodiac Killer, who terrorized the city in the '70s. If there ever were to be an LA Noire followup, this would be the most ideal story to tackle, given that it's rich with unique crimes, people, and has a great setting. So... is any of this real? Let's look at all of the evidence.

For starters, LA Noire was developed by the studio Team Bondi, led by a man named Brendan McNamara. Rockstar published the crime game and lent some developers to assist on the project. Unfortunately, Team Bondi dissolved shortly after LA Noire's release. Not long after, McNamara founded a new studio to make a successor known as The Whore of the Orient (which we reported new details on earlier this summer) without the help of Rockstar.

The game was scrapped due to funding issues and McNamara founded yet another studio known as Video Games Deluxe, which helped port LA Noire to VR devices. The studio was acquired by Rockstar in 2025 and renamed to Rockstar Australia, leading many to wonder what they're up to, exactly.

Presumably, they're helping with GTA 6, but a lot of the studio is comprised of ex-LA Noire creatives, including McNamara, who is a renowned storyteller. It seems hard to imagine that a creative like him would be relegated to leading a support studio, so it seems feasible that there could be plans for more games with him at the helm.

Rockstar has also shown an interest in the IP multiple times over the years. LA Noire was the second Rockstar game behind GTA 5 to be ported over to Xbox One and PS4, which raised eyebrows, given fans were more interested in titles like Bully, Red Dead Redemption, or even GTA 4. A condensed version of the game was also ported to VR around the same time, which was an unusual level of investment for Rockstar.

More recently, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the possibility of LA Noire returning. He noted that the door is open for Rockstar to revisit the game, so long as there's a team that's passionate about it.

“Broadly, we’re looking at doing something in the future with all of our intellectual property,” he said in April 2026. “There’s nothing to announce on LA Noire specifically, and if there were, it would be Rockstar announcing it, not me. But in any case, with regard to our legacy IP, the teams are always looking at what we have and we’re always thinking about it. The question is, at any given time, do we have a team that’s passionate about working on that?”

Whether McNamara is invested in another period crime drama remains to be seen, but his team would likely be the ones most gung-ho about going back to LA Noire. In 2012, Rockstar also teased that an LA Noire sequel wasn't off the table, as it was pleased with how the game performed, and Take-Two even noted its importance as a "franchise" moving forward.

"Don't count out the possibility of a new game in the LA Noire franchise in the future," said Rockstar during a fan Q&A. "We simply have not decided anything. We're all very pleased with how that game turned out and are considering what the future may hold for LA Noire as a series. We don't always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won't get to them eventually – see Max [Payne] and Red Dead for evidence of that – we have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing."

Either way, it's an exciting prospect to consider, but there are a lot of questions over what direction Rockstar will take post-GTA 6. The game is expected to be the biggest entertainment launch in history, and the studio will likely support the hell out of it with updates over time, especially when its online mode launches in the future.

Will that be all-consuming, eliminating any chance of "smaller" games like an LA Noire sequel, or will the financial success afford Rockstar the opportunity to make more interesting artistic plays? We'll just have to wait and see, but Rockstar is already set to publish a pair of Max Payne remakes, developed by Remedy, so there are opportunities outside of heavily monetized online games.

The Witcher 3 Gets 30 FPS on an RTX 5080 With Frame Gen Disabled

The Witcher 3 Remastered comes out tomorrow with a whole host of improvements that yet again bring it into the current generation. But it seems like if you want to max the game out with path tracing, you're going to need an absolute beast of a gaming PC.

CD Projekt Red updated The Witcher 3 system requirements ahead of tomorrow's update, and while it is still reasonable on the low end, if you want to enable path tracing at 4K, you're going to need an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080, which is going for about $1,650 on the low end right now. Even with that beefy graphics card, the system requirements suggest that you'll need both DLSS upscaling and frame generation to hit 60 fps, which means Nvidia's penultimate GPU still struggles with the 11-year-old game.

So, I of course plugged in an RTX 5080 to see how the game runs with path tracing in a lap around Novigrad, and it isn't great. At 4K with everything enabled, including path tracing and hairworks, with DLSS upscaling set to 'Performance,' the Nvidia 5080 gets an average of 30 fps. That goes up to 59 fps with frame generation, but at that low of a base frame rate, there are some very noticeable artifacts, particularly in the ground textures.

To be fair, hairworks has been nuking frame rates in The Witcher 3 since it first launched back in the day. You can (and probably should) disable hairworks to get much better performance, but even then, the 5080 can't hit 60 fps without frame gen. With hairworks disabled and path tracing enabled at 4K with DLSS set to performance, the game manages a 44 fps average, which jumps to 80 fps when frame generation is enabled.

The best way to get good performance out of The Witcher 3 Remastered right now, short of buying an RTX 5090, is to disable path tracing entirely. When you do that on the RTX 5080, the frame rate jumps to 55 fps, which is more reasonable, especially considering that all of this testing was done in Novigrad, which has been notorious for performance issues since 2015. Keep in mind that even with path tracing disabled, there are a ton of other ray tracing effects that you can disable to further improve your performance.

Luckily, the new system requirements suggest that the game will scale down well to lower hardware. It'll just be a question of which settings you are willing to disable to get good performance from this massive game. Still, it does sting to play an 11-year-old game with one of the most expensive graphics cards on the market and not be able to max everything out at a good frame rate.

We've got plenty more on The Witcher 3 Remastered, including a roundup of all the improvements, and the global release times. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered is available as a free update on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 from September 29. Well, now Space Marine 2’s game director has come out and admitted that is indeed the case — and confirmed plans to do something about it.

For the uninitiated, the Tyranids are a swarm-type enemy type that packs the screen with a mix of smaller foes and much bigger, harder-hitting foes. There’s a bloody minded pleasure that comes from chewing through scores of Tyranid enemies as a Space Marine, sweeping your Power Sword through xenos flesh, parrying a strike that gives you a clean response, and — my personal favorite — punching those Tyranids in the face with my Power Fist.

In contrast, the Thousand Sons present a more measured challenge. You are, after all, going up against fellow Space Marines here and their daemonic forces; they’re supposed to be tough. When those Terminators spawn and spam their missile barrage, playing against Chaos can feel like pulling teeth. The Thousand Sons are less of a 'switch your brain off and cleave through it' proposition, and more of a, 'if Space Marine 2 wanted to be a bit like Elden Ring, it would probably go a little like this.'

The effect is more pronounced the harder the difficulty you play. At easier difficulties, the Tyranids and Chaos are much of a muchness in terms of challenge. But ramp the difficulty up — which you need to do for certain levels of progression in Space Marine 2 — and Chaos becomes an absolute bloody nightmare, whereas the Tyranids often still feel manageable.

For this reason, Space Marine 2 players have for years now said the Tyranids are more fun to play against than Chaos, and I certainly agree. But in a Reddit AMA, game director Dmitry Grigorenko not only acknowledged that Chaos are harder, but said there is work being done to tweak the balance between the two enemy factions.

“We understand that Chaos is more difficult to fight against Tyranids, yes,” Grigorenko said. “There will be some pass on this in the future. I don't think it will be about bots being good vs Chaos specifically, though.”

That latter part of the answer is a response to the suggestion that Space Marine 2 should balance Chaos Operations (PvE missions) so it’s easier to fight against them as a solo player. With that ruled out, what could Grigorenko be talking about here? Perhaps it’s about a nerf to the entire faction, whether it be toughness, damage, or even spawn intensity. There are lots of things Saber could do here, although the fundamentals of how Chaos works in the game versus the Tyranids won’t change. Chaos are Space Marines after all.

I suspect that no matter what Saber does here, the Tyranids will always be more fun to fight than Chaos. That’s because you simply can't beat the feeling that comes from carving your way through the swarm, or pumping scores of alien monsters with bolter fire. That’s kind of the way this works. Still, I wouldn’t mind a tweak that makes me wince a little less whenever I’m up against Chaos.

My thoughts have inevitably turned to Space Marine 3, which is in development. What will be the “swarm” enemy here? Most believe Space Marine 3 will feature the Necrons, based on hints sprinkled throughout Space Marine 2. But what other factions would fit the bill? A return to the Orks seen in Space Marine 1? (Orks are the primary antagonist of the 11th edition of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game.) How about a focus on the relentless Death Guard and swarms of shuffling Plaguebearers?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered Update Patch Notes Include PC-Specific and Console-Specific Changes

CD Projekt has released the patch notes for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered update, confirming PC and console-specific changes to the single-player role-playing game.

CD Projekt has released the patch notes for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered update, confirming PC and console-specific changes to the single-player role-playing game.

Adding to its official list of improvements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, CD Projekt has now released detailed patch notes that anyone downloading the update tomorrow will find interesting, as published on The Witcher website.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered releases September 29 on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Minecraft Dungeons 2 is a brief, forgettable ARPG that’s as thin as they come, from its barebones story to its shallow gameplay, and you can see almost all it has to offer in the span of an afternoon. Simple, easygoing action is kinda the whole point here, but while there’s nothing actively offensive about this humdrum adventure, there’s also very little worth getting excited about either. The good news is that the minor improvements this sequel makes over the original are quite welcome, including more customizable characters and the added ability to jump, plus the new realm of the Sift adds some fresh color and creatures to the Minecraft universe – so if you’re looking to spend a mindless night or two swinging swords with your friends, you could do a lot worse than this.

If you didn’t play the first one, Minecraft Dungeons 2 takes the pixelated items and goofy mobs from Minecraft and throws them into an extremely light (and noticeably less gory) version of Diablo. You’ll delve into dungeons, smack around swarms of monsters, and tackle big ol’ slobbery bosses while hoovering up as much loot as you can along the way. But where most ARPGs lean hard into dizzying skill trees and loot with so many different stats you need a degree in mathematics to comprehend them, Minecraft Dungeons strips away most of that in favor of a much simpler framework. That makes it both more approachable and, almost equally, less interesting. While this sequel expands on the ideas from the first in modest ways, like by increasing the armor slots you’ve got from one to four, it mostly maintains that stripped down buildcrafting philosophy.

What we said about Minecraft Dungeons (2020)

Minecraft Dungeons is a beautiful and fun dungeon crawler with a simple but tried-and-true set of systems in place. It plays it extremely safe, though, without bringing anything mining or crafting spins to the genre to accompany Minecraft’s signature look and feel. Still, it's just so damn charming, and so fun, it's hard to fault it for going the safe route. With tons of loot, secret areas to uncover, and progressively more aggressive difficulty levels to unlock, Minecraft Dungeons has a fair amount of replayability beyond its relatively short six to eight-hour story mode. But who plays Minecraft for the story, anyway? - Seth Macy, May 22, 2020

Score: 7

Read the full Minecraft Dungeons review.

The roughly seven-hour story has your unnamed hero squaring off against an evil cabal of Illagers who gain access to a new dimension, called the Sift, and… actually, look at that, I’ve just about covered it all. The cutscenes and conversations to be found here are basically just a vague outline of a story that sends you to and fro to kill things and save the world, and that’s about as deep as it ever gets. It’s not like I was expecting some kind of emotional drama from my “Minecraft meets Diablo” game, but like most things in this adventure, there’s still very little to it.

The action is thankfully more developed than the story, adding some key features to the mix that make battling through the blocky world more enjoyable. I had completely forgotten, for example, that the original didn’t have a jump button, and having one here adds some needed platforming and light puzzles to solve – plus it gives you access to a new jump attack so you can drop a ‘bow on these filthy adds. You also have more options for enchanting your weapons and armor with special effects (which you unlock by conquering dungeons and completing quests throughout the world) as well as new artifacts that offer passive buffs, like increased damage with ranged weapons. All of these things are a decent step up from the original, but the vast majority of the moment-to-moment gameplay remains largely unchanged, and smacking samey zombies and Illagers tends to run thin quite quickly.

How your build feels is largely at the mercy of the RNG gods.

The fact that buildcrafting is mostly left up to whichever odd equipment you happen to stumble upon, rather than a class-based system, also means you and your co-op teammates all play exactly the same way, and you rarely have control over how your build feels (at least until you near the endgame), since you’re largely at the mercy of the RNG gods. For example, I wanted to play a rogue-type class, but kept finding big ass swords and tank-like items, so I ended up serving as our crew’s defacto melee fighter despite my best efforts. Not that there’s much of a difference anyway, since every player has access to the exact same dodge skill, base speed, weapon options, etc. and you won’t find a shield to add blocking to your arsenal or anything like that.

The handful of equipment slots you’re given offer a few perks each, like increased DPS or added benefits from using healing items, or the ability to shoot fireworks that explode and deal damage to everything in the vicinity (which are good for ringing in the new year, too). You’ll also find a small arsenal of melee and ranged weapons with which to thwack creepers and skeletons, each with just a single attack pattern for you to spam. As you progress, you’ll be able to add some neat enchantments to give weapons and armor a new perk, like one that makes you move faster after you score a kill, or another that lets your ranged attacks penetrate through a target, but none of them do much to shake up the hollow hacking and slashing.

The best part of Minecraft Dungeons 2 is the new area called the Sift, a magical, soul-powered realm filled with goat things, poisonous water, and more teal landscapes than was previously thought possible with the science of our day. This isn’t a game with a whole lot of personality, and it often feels like it merely wears a thin Minecraft skin – but this new dimension is one of the few ways in which it branches out to do its own thing, and it mostly succeeds at being an interesting place to explore. It’s got some new creatures and a super distinct vibe, with souls floating everywhere and dancing automatons roaming about. Unfortunately, this isn’t the best showcase of the new realm, since you’re mostly just plowing through areas killing things, so it really just made me wish I could wander around it in regular Minecraft. But in a game with not a whole lot of exciting stuff going on, getting to explore this new slice of the Minecraft universe was definitely a highlight.

Once you’ve completed the story, you’ll unlock the equally thin endgame, which adds a new activity called Soul Storms. These events summon more deadly enemies for a chance at better loot, but there aren’t really any other activities to pursue where you’ll really need this better gear – at least not yet. Mojang has said it has plans to roll out additional endgame content after launch, which could make this activity worth grinding some day, but for now it feels mostly like more of the same monotonous chopping and dodging I’d already had enough of by the end of the story. The new equipment, which adds an additional perk to all the weapons and armor you find within this elite tier, is a decent prize at least, so even though I immediately felt like there wasn’t much for me to do with my new kit, there’s something about obtaining cool stuff that’s a worthy end in itself.

Beyond the Soul Storms, you’ll mostly roam around, complete any side quests you hadn’t gotten to yet, replay boss fights from the story, and conquer the numerous optional dungeons that can unlock some new enchantment options for your gear. That’s all fine, but it’s all the same button mashing that will have worn out its welcome by that point. My friends and I tried to find reasons to stick around, curious if the story was just a primer for a more deep, compelling endgame (as is often the case with ARPGs), but it seems like that just hasn’t been built yet.

CD Projekt Releases Official List of All the Improvements in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered

CD Projekt has released an official list of all the improvements made for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered.

CD Projekt has released an official list of all the improvements made for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered.

The developer issued media with the updated list, which breaks the improvements down into four categories: visual, combat, quality of life, and miscellaneous. But it’s worth remembering this is a beta, and a beta is for players testing the game's boundaries and developer Blizzard reacting when those boundaries are broken.

Enter one of the best World of Warcraft griefing tactics I’ve seen in Forever so far.

Player jamesja12 took to the WoW Forever subreddit to post a screenshot of their death. That would be nothing worth writing home about under normal circumstances — you die all the time in World of Warcraft. But this was a screenshot of their character after they had died during the intro cinematic, because one cheeky player had placed a campfire exactly where new players spawn.

Someone made a campfire where new players spawn. It killed me during the intro cinematic.
by

wowforever

For the uninitiated, when you create a character in World of Warcraft — and World of Warcraft Forever — you get a snazzy intro cinematic that sets up the part of the world you start in, as well as your role within it. The camera does a fly-by of the local area before resting behind your freshly spawned character, ready to set out adventuring.

In WoW Forever you can craft and place campfires, which are — normally — all about helping other players out. Sit next to a campfire and you’ll receive a useful buff and maybe strike up a conversation with another player doing the same. Campfires are really cool social tools, as well as great buffing machines. I like campfires!

But they also cause a little damage because, well, they’re fire. If you run through a campfire, for example, you’ll take damage, as most WoW players will know well. Pop a campfire down where new characters spawn and they’ll strip that low HP away pretty quickly.

“Someone made a campfire where new players spawn. It killed me during the intro cinematic,” jamesja12 said, matter of factly, while posting a screenshot of the evidence of the crime scene. Pretty annoying? Well, most of the reaction is from players who are pretty impressed by this griefing tactic, rather than outraged.

“This is diabolical. I love it, although it's pretty mean,” one player said. “My orc was grunting during the intro and I had no idea why lol,” jamesja12 replied, referring to the noise characters make when they take damage.

“Brings new meaning to the term ‘spawn camping,’” another player said. “I can’t even be mad at that,” added another. “This is peak classic wow, amazing,” commented another.

This is World of Warcraft, so war between the Horde and the Alliance is part of the game. I was questing in Westfall last night as it was being raided by a high level Horde player who was killing quest-giving NPCs. Some were complaining in the chat, others saying this is part of the game. These are 20-year-old debates, rekindled once again in WoW Forever, and it’s great fun to see.

But this is orc-on-orc griefing, so perhaps Blizzard will take a dim view of it. I expect the developer will patch it out in some way — especially after this reddit post blew up (6,000 upvotes and counting!). I totally respect the effort to grief here. Yes, it’s annoying, but this is a beta after all. Best not to get too upset about anything. Now, if this becomes a widespread issue when Forever launches proper next month, that’s another thing. But for now… well done everyone! Jamesja12 indicated they used the in-game tool to report the “bug,” so it’s probably not long for this world. Enjoy it while it lasts.

The WoW Forever beta was inundated with players, and Blizzard has suggested its popularity took even the developers by surprise. It’s had to increase the beta population cap multiple times already. Yeah, this is going to be a big one.

Fortnite Five Nights at Freddy's Announcement is Now the Game's Most Liked Reveal Ever, Beating the Avengers and Dragon Ball Z

Epic Games' announcement of a Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy's crossover has now become the battle royale's most-liked post of all time on social media.

Epic Games' announcement of a Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy's crossover has now become the battle royale's most-liked post of all time on social media.

Characters from Scott Cawthon's hit horror series will join Fortnite next month, in time for its annual Halloween shenanigans.
