    Dear Support,

Our users receive the following error message when a new user tries to create a new user account on the /my-account/ page:
“Error: Password must be at least 8 characters long. Use upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols like ! ” ? $ % ^ & ).”

This error message doesn’t make sense because under “Account creation options” we have the option ticked for “Send password setup link (recommended)”.

In other words, on the /my-account/ page for the new account creation, only an email address field is showing, not a password field. Instead, it states “A link to set a new password will be sent to your email address.”

Please advise why you believe our users are seeing this error message.

    Kind regards,

    Piet

    Hi Piet!

I understand how confusing it can be to see a password requirement error when your settings specify sending a password setup link instead of requiring users to enter a password upfront.

This type of conflict often happens when there’s a plugin or custom code that’s still trying to validate a password field that shouldn’t be present, or when there are conflicting registration settings. It could also be related to how your registration form is configured or if there are any custom registration fields or validation rules in place.

Are you using any plugins that modify the registration process, such as custom registration fields, user role management, or security plugins that might be adding password requirements?

I would suggest disabling all plugins except WooCommerce and switch to a default theme like Storefront. Then, try creating a new account again. If the error disappears, this indicates a conflict with another plugin or your theme. Reactivate plugins one by one to identify the culprit. That often does the trick.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need anything else.
