The Studio Ghibli animated films have been released a number of times on physical media. The most recent Blu-ray release came in brightly colored limited-edition steelbooks, but they've gone out of stock – which is undoubtedly why they’re getting reprinted. The whole batch of 15 Ghibli films is back, and they're out today, September 29.
We’re talking movies like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and most of the rest of the studio’s output over the past 40 years. Many of these are straight-up masterpieces of animation. So if you’ve been eager to add some of these to your collection, now is a good time to do so.

Most of these movies were written and directed by either Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata. They’re all gorgeous to look at and sport high-caliber English voice work, with names like Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Edward James Olmos, Emily Blunt, Cary Elwes, Gillian Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Amy Poehler, Dev Patel, Daisy Ridley, Hailee Steinfeld, Kiernan Shipka, and more showing up in the credits.
I’ve only seen a handful of these movies, but they were all at least good, and most of them were spectacular. My Neighbor Totoro is about a pair of kids with a neglectful — er, busy — dad who move to a new house and discover strange creatures that live in or near the house. Spirited Away is a gentle nightmare of a film, about a girl whose parents transform into pigs and she gets lost in a town filled with strange people and beasts.
So if you could use some high quality animation in your life, these Blu-ray steelbook editions would make a great addition to your collection.
