A Court of Thorns and Roses was a planned Hulu adaptation of Sarah J. Maas' beloved romantasy series of the same name. It was first announced by Maas herself back in March 2021, who said she would be working with Ronald D. More in the series. Then in February 2025, it was officially confirmed that Hulu had scrapped the adaptation.

The latest update on a potential series came from an interview with Maas on the March 4 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. Maas confirmed that she has officially regained the rights to the series, but that her focus would be on her upcoming books in the series for the foreseeable future.
"Right now my focus is on books and it's been a little while since you guys have had something, so I'm focusing on that, but I look at any TV movie adaptation as kind of like another facet of the worlds that I've created and it's something that I want to be in charge of," Maas said about a potential TV series.
So while we don't have any sort of concreted details about when an ACOTAR TV adaptation will happen, it certainly seems like it still will at some point. With the upcoming adaptation of Fourth Wing (a similarly popular romantasy series) currently in the works at Prime Video, it seems inevitable that ACOTAR will get picked up again.
Upcoming ACOTAR books
While we wait for more news about a potential ACOTAR series, it's worth noting that Maas has announced release dates for two new books. Book six of the series is planned for October 27, 2026 followed by book seven on January 12, 2027. Maas has also confirmed that there will be a book eight in the series arriving at a later date.
Titles and covers for the upcoming books have yet to be revealed, but you can currently preorder them at all major online bookstores.
Toys and Games
A Court of Thorns and Roses has moved beyond the pages and into merchandise with tabletop games, toys, and more. There are several ACOTAR Monopoly board games you can buy as well as an original strategy game called Fate and Favor.
On the toys side of things, Funko Pop! is releasing new ACOTAR figures based on the first book. These figures are only available at select online bookstores and the Funko website.
