Advent Magic Lanterns

Dear Stitchers, I’m pleased to present the new pattern for ours Advent Candles, this year dedicated specifically on Christmas lanterns. I absolutely love lanterns, and I wanted to choose the most beautiful shapes and decorations to create these four, each containing an Advent candle. I also accompanied them with four little animals because I was missing them after last year. You’ll find the first lantern, dedicated to Hope, with robins; the second lantern, dedicated to Peace, is watched over by a small deer; the third lantern, dedicated to Joy, is accompanied by sweet red cardinals; and the fourth and final candle, dedicated to Love, is protected by a little squirrel.
Below you can find all the information you need to participate in the SAL candle lighting, stitching each candle flame on the corresponding Sunday of Advent.

Carissime Ricamine, sono lieta di presentarvi il nuovo schema dedicato alle candele dell’avvento, quest’anno dedicato in particolare alle lanterne natalizie. Amo moltissimo le lanterne e ho voluto scegliere le forme e le decorazioni più belle per creare queste quattro al cui interno brillano le quattro Candele dell’Avvento. Le ho accompagnate anche a quattro piccoli animaletti perché dopo l’anno passato mi mancavano. Troverete la prima lanterna, dedicata alla Speranza, con i pettirossi, la seconda lanterna, dedicata alla Pace, è vegliata da un piccolo cervo, la terza lanterna, dedicata alla Gioia, è accompagnata dai dolcissimi cardinali rossi, e la quarta e ultima candela, dedicata all’Amore, è protetta da uno scoiattolino.

If you want to participate the Advent Candles SAL, stitching the flames of the candles together, each on its own Sunday of Advent, you can buy one of my patterns dedicated to the Advent Candles, this new Advent Magic Lanterns, or, if you prefer, one of the past years – the Woodland Advent Candles released last year, the Advent Magic Candles released in 2022 or the Advent Starry Candles released in 2023 – and stitch it to have the candles, or just the base, ready for the first Sunday of Advent, in which we will stitch the flame together, symbolically lighting the candle. Those who prefer, can stitch the entire candle on its own day, and “light it”.

Below you will find all the information to participate in the SAL, and the dates for the lighting of the candles in 2025:

ADVENT CANDLES SAL 2025
Let’s light together the Advent Candles

Starting from the first Advent Sunday, until the last one, the one before Christmas Eve, we will light together the four Advent Candles, stitching their flame in a magical and symbolic way.

* The first flame will be lit on Sunday November 30th 2025.
* The second flame will be lit on Sunday December 7th.
* The third flame on Sunday December 14th.
* The fourth and final one will be lit on Sunday December 21st.

To participate, all you have to do is stitch one of my Advent Candles pattern in order to have the candles ready to be “lit” during the Advent Time. You can also stitch the entire candle on its own Sunday.
If you can’t do it in time, you can easily stitch according to your time and still participate, with the heart, in the lighting of the Advent Candles.
However, the SAL will be repeated in the coming years, so that all those who want to participate can do so at the right time.

You can also accompany the stitching, or the lighting of the stitched flames, with the lighting of real wax candles, by getting yourself a beautiful Advent Wreath, or a simple tray in which to place four small candles, decorated with a few sprigs of evergreen and some berries – real or fake, as you prefer – according to the splendid ancient custom of Advent Candles.

If you want, you can share your progress and above all, spread the light of Advent by photographing your flame and posting it on your Instagram or Facebook page and, if you want, on The Little Stitchers’ Club Facebook page, using the hashtag #adventcandlessal.

Accendiamo insieme le Candele dell’Avvento

A partire dalla prima domenica di Avvento, fino all’ultima, quella che cade prima della vigilia di Natale, accenderemo insieme le quattro Candele dell’Avvento, ricamando, in un gesto magico e simbolico, la loro fiamma.

* La prima fiamma verrà accesa domenica 30 novembre 2025.
* La seconda fiamma sarà accesa domenica 7 dicembre.
* La terza fiamma domenica 14 dicembre.
* La quarta e ultima verrà accesa domenica 21 dicembre.

Per partecipare non dovete fare altro che ricamare uno dei miei schemi dedicati alle Candele dell’Avvento in modo da avere le candele pronte per essere “accese” durante il periodo dell’Avvento. Potete anche ricamare l’intera candela durante la sua propria domenica.
Se non riuscite a farlo in tempo, potete tranquillamente ricamare secondo il vostro tempo e partecipare comunque, col cuore, all’accensione delle Candele dell’Avvento.
Il SAL sarà comunque ripetuto i prossimi anni, così che tutte e tutti coloro che vogliono partecipare possano farlo nei giusti tempi.

Potete accompagnare il ricamo, ovvero l’accensione delle fiamme, all’accensione di vere candele di cera, procurandovi una bella Corona dell’Avvento, o un semplice vassoietto nel quale riporre quattro piccoli ceri, decorati con qualche rametto di sempreverde e qualche bacca – veri o finti, come preferite – secondo la splendida usanza di origine antica delle Candele dell’Avvento.

International Women's Day

Good morning dear Stitchers! Finally, after a few years in which I had thought of creating something special for March 8th, the International Women’s Day, this year I managed to do it more or less in time! I see that many of you still love my pattern dedicated to the Suffragettes, and I also believe that in these times it is more important than ever to preserve our rights as free women, rights that our mothers or grandmothers fought to obtain, and to give them to their daughters: us.
So I created this set to remember and honor the first important right, the right to vote, but also to celebrate Women’s Day with one of its most beloved symbols, the mimosa.

Buongiorno care Ricamine! Finalmente, dopo qualche anno in cui avevo pensato di creare qualcosa di particolare per l’8 Marzo, la Giornata Internazionale della Donna – o Festa della Donna, come si usa dire – quest’anno ci sono riuscita più o meno in tempo! Vedo che molte di voi amano ancora il mio schema dedicato alle Suffragette, e credo anche che di questi tempi sia quanto mai importante preservare i nostri diritti di donne libere, diritti che le nostre mamme o nonne hanno combattuto per ottenere, e per farli avere alle loro figlie, noi.
Ho quindi creato questo set per ricordare e onorare il primo diritto importante, il diritto al Voto, ma anche per celebrare la Giornata della Donna con uno dei suoi simboli più amati, la mimosa.

Here in Italy it is customary to give all women a sprig of mimosa on this day, and it is also customary to prepare, or buy, the delicious Mimosa Cake, made with diced sponge cake, to remember the mimosa, and cream inside.
The set I propose to you therefore contains the largest pattern, with the Suffragette, with the sign “Women Rights” and the words “Votes for Women”, an immortal slogan of the Suffragettes of the early decades of the 1900s. To decorate everything, the mimosas! Then there is a small ornament dedicated to International Women’s Day, which if you want you can finish round, flat, perhaps with pleated lace all around, and in this way create a brooch similar to the cockades used at the time of the Suffragettes. Finally, a tribute to the mimosa, in an ornament similar to the one I had designed for Candlemas/Imbolc with snowdrops. This time the sweet glass bell contains a bunch of mimosas. The inevitable bell sewn on top.

Qui in Italia si usa regalare a tutte le donne un rametto di mimosa durante questa giornata, e si usa anche preparare, o acquistare, la deliziosa Torta Mimosa, fatta con pan di spagna a cubetti, per ricordare la mimosa, e crema all’interno.
Il set che vi propongo contiene quindi lo schema più grande, con la Suffragetta, col cartello “Women Rights” e la scritta “Votes for Women”, slogan immortale delle Suffragette dei primi decenni del 1900. A decorare il tutto, le mimose! C’è poi un piccolo ornament dedicato sempre alla Giornata Internazionale della Donna, che se volete potete rifinire rotondo, piatto, magari con del pizzo pieghettato a fare da bordo, e realizzare in questo modo una spilla simile alle coccarde usate all’epoca delle Suffragette. Infine, un elogio alla mimosa, in un ornament simile a quello che avevo disegnato per la Candelora/Imbolc con i bucaneve. Questa volta la dolce campana di vetro contiene un mazzo di mimose. Immancabile, il campanellino cucito in cima.

The date of Votes for Women refers to America, but if you do not live there, in the pattern you will find the numbers to compose the exact date of obtaining the Right to Vote for women in your country.
The meaning of the date from 1920 to “Today”, is because every right must always be maintained, then as today.

La data del Votes for Women si riferisce all’America, ma se non abitate lì nello schema troverete i numeri per comporre la data esatta dell’ottenimento del Diritto al Voto per le donne nel vostro Paese.
Il significato della data dal 1920 a “Oggi”, è perché ogni diritto deve sempre essere mantenuto, allora come oggi.

I hope you like this set. You can stitch it for March 8th, but also throughout the year, because, let us always remember, every day must be Women’s Day, of our rights, of our equality and freedom.

Dear Stitchers,
finally, I can officially present you the pattern that has been a beloved company for many of us throughout this almost finished year. The Mystery SAL concludes now, and this is the completed Thirteen Moon pattern. Those who stitched it during these months loved it very much and I'm really happy about it, and those who wanted to wait to see it all finished can do it now.

finalmente posso presentare ufficialmente lo schema che a molte di noi ha tenuto compagnia durante tutto questo anno ormai quasi finito. Chi lo ha ricamato durante questi mesi lo ha amato molto e io ne sono davvero felice, e chi invece ha voluto aspettare di vederlo tutto concluso, può farlo adesso.

Introduction to the Thirteen Moons

During the course of a solar year, twelve full moons appear in the sky, becoming thirteen about every three years. Lunations can be calculated simply by following the lunar year – starting from October, as the Celtic peoples did, or from January – or in association with the solar months. Although it is more natural to follow the lunar year, and locate the thirteenth lunation – when it is present – in the last one that completes the cycle, restoring order and balance, and resetting the duration of the cycle itself when it would end too soon – since the lunar month lasts fewer days than the solar one – some traditions prefer to experience the lunations exclusively in relation to the solar months. In this case, each full moon is the one that belongs to a particular month and incorporates its seasonal characteristics, as well as activities and symbols.
According to this method based on the solar year, the thirteenth full moon is the one that appears for the second time during one month. It can therefore appear at any time of the year, and is considered particularly magical, as well as related to destiny and magic.

The twelve full moons have taken on particular names over time, which are said to have originated mostly within certain Native American tribes, but which are now recognized and used in many places around the world.
To create these patterns, I wanted to draw directly on these names, choosing among the different variants the ones that seemed to me the most beautiful and suitable for being represented and embroidered.
The Thirteenth Moon, which traditionally takes the name of Blue Moon, will instead be different from what one might expect, and will recall a strong symbol of magic and destiny, also inherent in the number thirteen.

Introduzione alle Tredici Lune

Durante il corso di un anno solare appaiono nel cielo dodici lune piene, che diventano tredici ogni circa tre anni. Le lunazioni possono essere calcolate semplicemente seguendo l’anno lunare – a partire da ottobre, come facevano i popoli celti, o da gennaio – oppure in associazione ai mesi solari.
Sebbene sia più naturale seguire l’anno lunare, e individuare la tredicesima lunazione – quando è presente – nell’ultima che completa il ciclo, ristabilendo l’ordine e l’equilibrio, e riassestando la durata del ciclo stesso quando questo finirebbe troppo presto – poiché il mese lunare dura meno giorni rispetto a quello solare – certe tradizioni preferiscono vivere le lunazioni esclusivamente in rapporto ai mesi solari. In questo caso ogni luna piena è quella che appartiene a un determinato mese e ne riprende le caratteristiche stagionali, come anche le attività e i simboli.
Secondo questo metodo basato sull’anno solare, la tredicesima luna piena è quella che compare per la seconda volta nell’arco di un mese. Può dunque comparire in qualsiasi momento dell’anno, ed è considerata particolarmente magica, nonché legata al destino e alla magia.

Le dodici lune piene hanno assunto nel corso del tempo nomi particolari, che si dice siano nati perlopiù all’interno di certe tribù native americane, ma che sono ad oggi riconosciuti e utilizzati in molti luoghi del mondo.
Per creare questi schemi ho voluto attingere direttamente a questi nomi, scegliendo tra le diverse varianti quelle che mi sembravano più belle e adatte ad essere disegnate e ricamate.
La Tredicesima Luna, che tradizionalmente prende il nome di Luna Blu, sarà invece diversa da ciò che ci si può aspettare, e richiamerà un forte simbolo della magia e del destino, insito altresì nel numero tredici.

Advent Magic Candles

The night grows step by step, leading us towards the shortest days of the year and towards the moment of greatest darkness, the Winter Solstice.
In ancient times, the pre-Christian Scandinavian peoples used to light fires or candles, and place them on a wheel, the Wheel of the Earth, praying to the divinities of light to make it turn again in the direction of the Sun, so as to make its rays and heat reappear and lengthen the endless cold nights.
Over time, the custom was adopted by the Christian church and thus the Advent Crown was born, a crown made up of intertwined branches – or of a metal structure – and decorated with natural elements, suitable for holding four candles. The four candles are lit one for each Sunday of Advent, i.e. for the four Sundays preceding Christmas Eve, and recall the approach of the birth of the new light – symbolized in this case by Christ – and therefore of the rebirth of the Sun.
The Advent Wreath can be circular, as the oldest tradition one, or the Advent Candles can be arranged in a row, to create a sort of path, or staircase, which culminates with the highest flame, the fourth, the one which burns together with all the others on the last Sunday before Christmas.

To decorate the Advent Wreath, some symbols cannot be missing, such as evergreen branches and in many cases, moss, red berries, pine cones and dried fruit. Pine and holly recall immortality and life that continues to resist even in the heart of winter, sprigs of cedar attract healing and strength, laurel recalls victory over suffering, while pine cones, red berries, nuts and dried fruit symbolize nourishment, life and rebirth.
The circle of the crown, on the other hand, represents the eternity of the divinity and immortality of the soul.

La notte cresce passo dopo passo, portandoci verso le giornate più corte dell’anno e verso il momento di maggiore oscurità, il Solstizio d’Inverno.
Anticamente i popoli scandinavi precristiani usavano accendere fuochi o ceri, e riporli su una ruota, la Ruota della Terra, pregando le divinità della luce di farla girare nuovamente nella direzione del Sole, così da far riapparire i suoi raggi e il suo calore e allungare le gelide e infinite notti nordiche.
Col tempo, l’usanza venne adottata dalla chiesa cristiana e nacque così la Corona dell’Avvento, una corona composta solitamente da rami intrecciati – o da una struttura metallica – e decorata con elementi naturali, adatta a contenere quattro candele. Le quattro candele vengono accese una per ogni domenica dell’Avvento, ovvero per le quattro domeniche che precedono la vigilia di Natale, e richiamano l’avvicinarsi della nascita della nuova luce – simboleggiata in questo caso da Cristo – e quindi della rinascita del Sole.
La Corona dell’Avvento può essere circolare, come da tradizione più antica, oppure le Candele dell’Avvento possono essere disposte in fila, a creare una sorta di percorso, o di scala, che culmina con la fiamma più alta, la quarta, quella che arde insieme a tutte le altre l’ultima domenica prima di Natale.

A decorare la Corona dell’Avvento, non possono mancare alcuni simboli, come i rami di sempreverde e, in molti casi, muschio, bacche rosse, pigne e frutta secca. Il pino e l’agrifoglio richiamano l’immortalità e la vita che continua a resistere anche nel cuore dell’inverno, rametti di cedro attirano guarigione e forza, l’alloro richiama la vittoria sulla sofferenza, mentre pigne, bacche rosse, noci e frutta secca simboleggiano il nutrimento, la vita e la rinascita.
Il cerchio della corona, invece, rappresenta l’eternità del divino e l’immortalità dell’anima.

The four candles have their own meaning. In the more Christian version, the first candle is the Candle of the Prophet, and refers to the prophecies about the coming of Christ; the second one is the Candle of Bethlehem, to remember the native land of Christ; the third one is the Candle of the Shepherds, who are those who first adored Christ; finally, the fourth candle is the Candle of the Angels, who first of all announced the birth of Christ to the world.
Some Advent Wreaths then have a fifth candle, placed in the center, it’s the Candle of Christ. This is lit on Christmas Eve and symbolizes the birth of the divine Child, who represents the light in the world.

According to a more secular version, the four candles recall four beneficial meanings, which at the same time act as magic words.
The first candle is Hope, the second candle is Peace – or sometimes Faith, the third candle is Joy, the fourth candle is Love. Where there is a fifth candle, this could represent Light.
The progressive lighting of the candles in fact recalls the growth of light, or its victory over darkness.

Le quattro candele hanno ognuna un proprio significato. Nella versione più fedelmente cristiana, la prima candela è la Candela del Profeta, e rimanda alle profezie sulla venuta di Cristo; la seconda è la Candela di Betlemme, a ricordare la terra natia di Cristo; la terza è la Candela dei Pastori, che sono coloro che per primi adorarono Cristo; infine la quarta è la Candela degli Angeli, che prima di tutti annunciarono al mondo la nascita di Cristo.
Alcune Corone dell’Avvento hanno poi una quinta candela, posta al centro, la Candela di Cristo. Questa viene accesa la notte della vigilia di Natale e simboleggia la nascita del Bambino divino, che rappresenta la luce nel mondo.

Secondo una versione più laica, le quattro candele richiamano quattro significati benefici, che al contempo fungono da parole magiche.
La prima candela è la Speranza, la seconda candela è la Pace – o in certi casi la Fede, la terza candela è la Gioia, la quarta candela è l’Amore. Laddove è presente una quinta candela, questa potrebbe rappresentare la Luce.
La progressiva accensione delle candele richiama infatti la crescita della luce, ovvero la sua vittoria sulle tenebre.

With this pattern I wanted to represent the four Advent Candles, giving them the look I love the most. The set also contains the four ornaments with the symbolic words of the four candles, Hope, Peace, Joy and Love, and also includes a single candle, taken from the first, to be stitched as single ornament.

Con questo schema ho voluto rappresentare le quattro candele dell’Avvento, dando loro l’aspetto che amo di più. Il set contiene anche i quattro ornament con le parole simbolo delle quattro candele, Hope, Peace, Joy e Love, e comprende anche una candela singola, ripresa dalla prima, da confezionare come ornament.

Let’s light together the Advent Magic Candles

Starting this Sunday, until the last Sunday before Christmas Eve, we will light the four Advent Candles together, stitching their flame in a magical and symbolic gesture.

The first flame will be lit on Sunday 27 November 2022.
The second flame will be lit on Sunday December 4th.
The third flame on Sunday December 11th.
The fourth and final one will be lit on Sunday December 18th.

If you want to participate in this little SAL, all you have to do is buy the Advent Magic Candles pattern and stitch it so that the candles are ready to be lit during the Advent period. You can also stitch the entire candle on its own Sunday.

Accendiamo insieme le Candele dell’Avvento

A partire da questa domenica, fino all’ultima prima della vigilia di Natale, accenderemo insieme le quattro Candele dell’Avvento, ricamando, in un gesto magico e simbolico, la loro fiamma.

La prima fiamma verrà accesa domenica 27 novembre 2022.
La seconda fiamma sarà accesa domenica 4 dicembre.
La terza fiamma domenica 11 dicembre.
La quarta e ultima verrà accesa domenica 18 dicembre.

Se volete partecipare a questo piccolo SAL non dovete fare altro che acquistare lo schema Advent Magic Candles e ricamarlo in modo da avere le candele pronte per essere accese durante il periodo dell’Avvento. Potete anche ricamare l’intera candela durante la sua propria domenica.
Se non riuscite a farlo in tempo, potete tranquillamente ricamare secondo il vostro tempo e partecipare comunque, col cuore, all’accensione delle Candele dell’Avvento.
Il SAL sarà comunque ripetuto i prossimi anni, così che tutte e tutti coloro che vogliono partecipare possano farlo nei giusti tempi.

Tra una candela e l’altra potete divertirvi a ricamare le varie decorazioni che abbelliscono lo schema, e i quattro ornament – Hope, Peace, Joy e Love – che potranno essere appesi al vostro Albero di Natale o posti accanto al ricamo delle Candele dell’Avvento.
Nel set è compreso anche lo schema di una candela singola, che può diventare un grazioso ornament a ricordare la luce da mantenere viva ogni giorno.

Potete accompagnare il ricamo, ovvero l’accensione delle fiamme, all’accensione di vere candele di cera, procurandovi una bella Corona dell’Avvento, o un semplice vassoietto nel quale riporre quattro piccoli ceri, decorati con qualche rametto di sempreverde e qualche bacca – veri o finti, come preferite – secondo la splendida usanza di origine antica delle Candele dell’Avvento.

Water Animals and The Lorelei

Dear Stitchers,
with a “slight” delay I am finally ready to present you the first two patterns of this summer, which continue my series on little animals and that of legends.
The first pattern is therefore dedicated to freshwater animals, those that are easy to meet while they are swimming in the waters of a river or lake, or relaxing in the sun on a rock or a stony beach.
This time the set includes of the White-throated Dipper, the Otter, the Beaver, the Tufted Duck and finally the inevitable and elegant Swan.

Care Ricamine,
con un “lieve” ritardo sono finalmente pronta a presentarvi i primi due schemi di questa estate, che proseguono la mia serie sugli animaletti e quella delle leggende.
Il primo schema è quindi dedicato agli animaletti dell’acqua dolce, quelli che è facile incontrare mentre nuotano fra le acque di un fiume o di un lago, o si rilassano al sole su una roccia o una spiaggia sassosa.
Questa volta il set è composto dal Merlo acquaiolo, dalla Lontra, dal Castoro, dall’Anatra moretta e infine dall’immancabile ed elegantissimo Cigno.

They are always made up of beautiful white polka dot linen and go to join all the other animals, which are starting to be numerous!

Sono sempre confezionati sul bel lino a pois bianchi e vanno ad unirsi a tutti gli altri animali, che cominciano ad essere numerosi!

The second pattern portrays the beautiful Fairy – or Siren – Lorelei of German legends.
It is said that a beautiful woman, with golden hair, adorned with glittering gold jewels, appeared on the top of a rock that runs along the Rhine river, at a point where the curvature of the river bed is extremely dangerous. Here she sang, either she played an instrument, or she looked at herself in the mirror, or she combed her long hair, and the sailors, bewitched by her sight, as by the song of the sirens, paid no attention to their boat, and gazing at the fairy they did not notice the fatal approach of the rocks. So they crashed and drowned, disappearing into the tumultuous waters of the Rhine.

Il secondo schema ritrae invece la bellissima Fata Lorelei delle leggende tedesche.
Si narra che una donna bellissima, dai capelli dorati, ornata di gioielli luccicanti d’oro, apparisse sulla cima di una roccia che costeggia il fiume Reno, in un punto nel quale la curvatura del letto del fiume è estremamente pericolosa.. Qui cantava, o suonava, o si specchiava, o si pettinava i lunghi capelli, e i naviganti, ammaliati dalla sua vista, come dal canto delle sirene, non prestavano attenzione alla loro barca, e rimirando la fata non si accorgevano del fatale avvicinarsi delle rocce. Così si schiantavano, e annegavano sparendo nelle acque tumultuose del Reno.

The legend probably arose precisely to give a mythological explanation to the numerous shipwrecks that occurred right at that point of the river, but it could also be linked to the ancient female deities who inhabited the Rhine and the surrounding mountains. Deities who captured the hearts of sailors and welcomed them into their magical realm.
The pattern also contains a short extract translated into English of the famous and beautiful poem dedicated to Lorelei by the German poet Heinrich Heine.

La leggenda probabilmente nacque proprio per dare una spiegazione mitologica ai numerosi naufragi che si verificavano proprio in quel punto del fiume, ma potrebbe anche essere legata alle antiche divinità femminili che abitavano il Reno e le montagne attorno. Divinità che catturavano il cuore dei naviganti e li accoglievano nel loro reame oltremondano.
Lo schema contiene anche un breve estratto tradotto in inglese della famosa e bellissima poesia dedicata alla Lorelei dal poeta tedesco Heinrich Heine.

So, these are the two themes, both related to water and its creatures, animals and fairies, that I wanted to propose to you with my first two patterns.
The others will arrive in a few days, and since I know you love my bee sets very much, you will even see three ones, all new! I’m sure they will be worth the wait ;)

The Lady of the Lake and Camelot Reign

Dear Stitchers,
I’m finally ready to show you the other two patterns that I had announced to you, which are part of my series dedicated to Avalon and therefore also to the Kingdom of Camelot.
The first pattern portrays the most mysterious and beautiful figure of Breton Matter, the Lady of the Lake.
She comes from the waters, under whose surface her white and silver kingdom is hidden. And she is the only one who can give the sword to the king, giving him the sacred power not only of the common world, but also of the otherworldly one.
In my drawing, the Lady of the Lake gives the sword, at the beginning of King Arthur's story, and then takes it again, when the dying king asks his faithful knight to return it to the lake. Then a mysterious arm emerges from the water, and grabs the sword, then disappearing together with it in the mysterious depths.
I love this pattern very much, and hope you like it.

Care Ricamine,
ecco finalmente gli altri due schemi che vi avevo annunciato, che fanno parte della mia serie dedicate ad Avalon e quindi anche al Regno di Camelot.
Il primo schema ritrae la figura più misteriosa e bella della Materia Bretone, la Dama del Lago.
Giunge dalle acque, sotto la cui superficie si cela il suo regno bianco e argento. Ed è l’unica che può donare la spada al re, conferendogli il potere sacro non solo del mondo comune, ma anche di quello ultraterreno.
Nel mio disegno, la Dama del Lago dona la spada, all’inizio della storia di Re Artù, e poi la prende nuovamente, quando il re morente chiede al suo fedele cavaliere di restituirla al lago. Allora un braccio misterioso emerge dall’acqua, e afferra la spada, sparendo poi insieme ad essa nei misteriosi fondali.
Amo molto questo schema, e spero che possa piacervi.

The second, and more complex pattern, tells about the Reign of Camelot, ruled by King Arthur and the beautiful Queen Guinevere, who is none other than the sacred bride, the terrestrial female Sovereignty which confers active power to the king in the kingdom in which he acts and reigns.
Guinevere bears the signs of her divine origin, her dress is the color of apples, and I wanted to design the apple branch, the symbol of Avalon, to unite the King and Queen.
Also in this pattern, Arthur wields Excalibur, donated by the Lady of the Lake, whose sheath does not allow the one who is in possession of it to shed any drop of blood.
In the sovereignty of Arthur and Guinevere, the Reign of Camelot thrives, blessed and protected by the terrestrial and divine worlds, hidden beyond the apparent surface of things.

Il secondo, e più impegnativo, schema racconta invece il Regno di Camelot, governato da Re Artù e dalla bellissima Regina Ginevra, che altri non è se non la sacra sposa, la Sovranità terrestre che conferisce potere attivo al sovrano nel regno in cui egli agisce e regna.
Ginevra porta i segni della sua provenienza divina, il suo vestito ha il colore delle mele, e ho voluto disegnare proprio il ramo di melo, simbolo di Avalon, a unire il Re e la Regina.
Anche in questo schema, Artù impugna Excalibur, donata dalla Dama del Lago, il cui fodero non permette a colui che ne è in possesso, di versare alcuna goccia di sangue.
Nella sovranità di Artù e di Ginevra, il Regno di Camelot prospera, benedetto e protetto dal mondo terrestre e da quello divino, nascosto oltre la superficie apparente delle cose.

These two patterns temporarily conclude my Avalon series. I hope you like them and that they accompany you in the heart of the most beloved legends.

Telling the Bees

Dear Stitchers,
one of the most beloved series of patterns I created is the one dedicated to bees, which began with the first pattern in the summer of 2014. After drawing and publishing five patterns I thought I had run out of ideas, but evidently it's not so, since this year I finally decided to pick up and publish the pattern that I'm going to show you, also sketching the other one that will be released the next summer.
Maybe some of you are familiar with the ancient tradition of Telling the Bees, known in Europe, especially in England, but also in the United States.
It is said that when important events occurred in the life of a beekeeper, such as births, marriages, transfers, or deaths, it was always necessary to “telling the bees”. Especially in the case of a death, the bees had to be able to mourn, otherwise they could have decided not to produce honey, or worse, they could have left the hive or died.

una delle serie di schemi più amata fra quelle che ho creato è quella dedicata alle api, iniziata con il primo schema nell'estate del 2014. Dopo aver disegnato e pubblicato cinque schemi credevo di aver esaurito le idee, ma evidentemente non è così, dal momento che quest'anno ho finalmente deciso di riprendere in mano e pubblicare lo schema che sto per mostrarvi, abbozzando anche quello che uscirà l'estate prossima.
Forse alcune di voi conoscono l'antica tradizione del Telling the Bees, o “Dirlo alle Api”, nota in Europa, soprattutto in Inghilterra, ma anche negli Stati Uniti.
Si dice che quando nella vita di una apicoltrice o di un apicoltore si verificavano avvenimenti importanti, come nascite, matrimoni, trasferimenti, oppure morti, bisognasse sempre “dirlo alle api”. Soprattutto nel caso di un decesso, le api dovevano potersi mettere in lutto, altrimenti avrebbero potuto decidere di non produrre più miele, o peggio, avrebbero potuto lasciare l'alveare o morire.


Talking with bees was a tradition in which the closeness between the beekeeper and the bees themselves became even more intimate and profound, and it was essential because the collaboration between the woman or man and her/his bees to worked in the best way.
I love this tradition very much, from the first moment I learned about it, many years ago, and among all the patterns dedicated to bees, this could not be missing.
In the design, a beautiful beekeeper, is just telling the bees something that has happened to her, and that the bees need to be made aware of. Surely it is something beautiful, for which the young beekeeper is happy, and her bees, standing around her, while the queen fly high to listen to her, buzzes around her to celebrate.
And you, what would you like to say to the bees, to share your life with them and with their sweet and golden world?

Parlare con le api era una tradizione nella quale la vicinanza fra coloro che curavano le api e le api stesse diveniva ancora più intima e profonda, ed era essenziale perché la collaborazione fra la donna o l'uomo e le proprie api funzionasse nel migliore dei modi.
Amo moltissimo questa tradizione, dal primo momento in cui ne sono venuta a conoscenza, ormai tanti anni fa, e fra tutti gli schemi dedicati alle api non poteva mancare questo.
Nel disegno, una bella fanciulla apicoltrice sta proprio dicendo alle api qualcosa che le è capitato, e di cui le api devono essere messe al corrente. Sicuramente si tratta di qualcosa di bello, per cui la giovane apicoltrice è felice, e le sue api, standole intorno, mentre la regina si libra alta per ascoltarla, le ronzano intorno per festeggiare.
E voi, cosa vorreste dire alle api, per condividere con loro e con il loro mondo dolce e dorato, la vostra vita?

Christmas 2019: Jingle Bells and Christmas Traditions

I’m pleased to show you the new collection of patterns for Christmas 2019.
This year I focused myself with ornaments, because I wanted to offer you the possibility of reviving Christmas tree decorations with lots of new designs, and I hope you will like them.
The first set is my favorite! As you see, after a few years I returned to the theme of Saint Lucy which is immensely important to me. I wanted to create a new Lucia in a way a little different from the previous one and I decided to dedicate a set to the most beloved symbols of Swedish Christmas, simply calling it “Christmas in Sweden”.

Care Ricamatrici,
sono lieta di mostrarvi la nuova collezione di schemi per Natale 2019.
Quest’anno mi sono sbizzarrita con gli ornaments, perché volevo offrire la possibilità di ravvivare le decorazioni dell’albero di Natale con tanti nuovi disegni, e spero che questi vi piaceranno.
Il primo set è il mio preferito, e dopo alcuni anni sono tornata sul tema di Santa Lucia che per me è immensamente importante. Volevo creare una nuova Lucia in un modo un po’ diverso dalla precedente e ho pensato di dedicare un set ai più amati simboli del Natale svedese, chiamandolo semplicemente “Christmas in Sweden”.

The largest pattern shows Sankta Lucia and the Tomte, a sprite who is sometimes very good, sometimes a little spiteful, who brings presents to Swedish children. Also called Nisse in Norway and Denmark, the Tomte was originally a woodland deity, protector of the house and stables, and only later was associated with Christmas and the delivery of gifts to good children.

Lo schema più grande mostra quindi Sankta Lucia e il Tomte, un folletto a volte molto buono ,a volte un po’ dispettoso, che porta i regali ai bambini svedesi. Chiamato anche Nisse in Norvegia e in Danimarca, il Tomte era in origine una divinità silvestre, protettrice della casa e delle stalle, e solo successivamente è stato associato al Natale e alla consegna dei regali ai bambini buoni.

Together with Lucia and the Tomte, I wanted to design three ornaments: the first represents the typical Swedish solstice candlestick, with seven candles lit; the second is the typical marzipan piglet that is given to children on Christmas day, but which is also realized in wood as a candle holder in the Swedish tradition; the third is the beautiful Dalecarlian little horse, that has ancient origin and initially was linked to its first city of production, Dalarna. It is thought to be an heir to the very ancient mythological horse Sleipnir, belonging to the god Odin, although this is made in bright colors, like a toy, and naturally has no eight legs.
If you want to learn more about these symbols, I recommend a quick search on the web, because they are extremely interesting and can give an extra touch – not only visual but also meaningful – at your Christmas, wherever you live.

Insieme a Lucia e al Tomte, ho voluto disegnare tre ornaments: il primo rappresenta il tipico candeliere solstiziale svedese, con sette candele accese; il secondo il tipico porcellino di marzapane che nel giorno di Natale viene regalato ai bambini, ma che è anche presente come porta candele nella tradizione svedese; il terzo è il bellissimo cavallino Dalecarlian, di origine antica e inizialmente legato alla sua prima città di produzione, Dalarna. Si pensa che sia un erede dell’antichissimo cavallo mitologico Sleipnir, appartenente al dio Odino, anche se questo è realizzato in colori vivaci, come un giocattolo, e naturalmente non ha otto zampe.
Se volete approfondire questi simboli vi consiglio una veloce ricerca sul web, perché sono estremamente interessanti e possono dare un tocco in più – non solo visivo ma anche ricco di significato – al vostro Natale, ovunque abitiate.

The second set continues my series of Traditional Christmas Songs. After “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Let it Snow”, this year I wanted to make the most beloved song ever, the very classic “Jingle Bells”. I realized it in three medium-sized ornaments, which you can finish in different ways: you can create cushions to hang on to the Christmas Tree, frame them all with fairly thin rough wooden frames, or mount pretty pinkepts like the ones I sewed, filling them of bells to remain close to the song theme.

Il secondo set prosegue la mia serie di Canti Tradizionali Natalizi. Dopo “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” e “Let it Snow”, quest’anno ho voluto realizzare il canto più amato in assoluto, il classicissimo “Jingle Bells”. L’ho realizzato in tre ornaments di medie dimensioni, che potete rifinire in modi diversi: potete creare dei cuscinetti da appendere, incorniciarli tutti e tre con cornici di legno grezzo abbastanza sottili, oppure montare dei graziosi pinkeep come quelli che ho cucito io, riempiendoli di campanellini per rimanere fedeli al tema del canto.

Finally, the third set is dedicated to one of the sweetest moments of the holidays, a Christmas tea spent alone or in company. It’s called “Christmas Tea Time” and offers four ornaments of different sizes, plus a tea bag holder – but you can finish it as another ornament if you prefer.
There’s just everything, the typical winter-Christmas teapot and cup, a cake and a few delicious cupcakes, and a girl who sips her Christmas tea in a beautiful Tea House just before Christmas day.

Infine, il terzo set è dedicato a uno dei momenti più dolci delle feste, un tè natalizio passato da sole oppure in compagnia. Si intitola “Christmas Tea Time” ed offre ben quattro ornaments di diverse dimensioni, più un porta bustina da tè – che però potete comunque rifinire come ornament, se preferite.
C’è proprio tutto, le tipiche teiera e tazza invernali-natalizie, una torta e le deliziose cupcakes, e una fanciulla che sorseggia il suo tè natalizio in una bella Tea House poco prima del giorno di Natale.
