If I want real warfare, I'll join the Army (Air Force actually). I play video games as an escape from reality. While playing them, I want to be able to do things that I can't really do in real life (or wouldn't have the opportunity of doing in real life).

On a side note...where the heck are all of the 25-post members coming from? They're making me feel ancient...

This is the first call of duty vs halo thread I've seen that hasn't been burned to the ground within the first two or three replies. I am disappointed in you all.

I've always been a halo fan boy in case my name didnt give it away. However, I do appreciate both games for what they are. What halo does better than cod is new player ingratiation. I remember jumping into halo 3 multiplayer for the first time and thinking "wow Im not getting completely destroyed by the other team!". Although last year, when I jumped into a call of duty match I was met with frustration (although I could just flat out suck at that game). I was going against level 30's when I was a mere level 1 and felt greatly outmatched. Although when it comes to multiplayer longevity, I'm afraid call of duty has got halo beat. In halo when i do well I get credits to buy new armor which in turn benefits me by making me more flashy? Im sorry but after a while the thrill of having new armor just completely wears off. Call of duty, however, gives you new guns, perks, looks and much more to benefit your character. This made me come back again and again to see what i could earn. Now it comes down to the biggy, gameplay. In my opinion you just cannot compare these two fairly because in reality, it comes down to the player. Call of duty excels at fast pace killing; I see, I shoot, I kill. Halo however brings it's own style to the table. Unlike in call of duty, the first shot doesn't win 90% of the time. Because there are shields and recharge the player is given a better chance of coming back and killing their attacker. Which I LOVE. Anyways, thats my basic take. Both games are well done and tend to abide by their basic formulas but in the end it's all player preference.

I can not wait for Halo 4!! I'm gonna put it right beside my copy of halo 3!! RIGHT IN MY TOILET, cuz the whole Halo series is nothing but a big over-rated steaming pile of fecal matter!! I do not know why this series is as hyped as it is, but will someone, ANYONE, please explain it to me, because storyline, action, gameplay, graphics, it doesn't excel at any of these in comparison to other big studio projects in the same genre....I look forward to all your hateful comments fanboys

I say HALO. COD has somewhat glitchy mechanics and the lagging is *sigh*...need I say irritating? I use too many weapons in COD but it seems to me that snipers and shot guns can get you those one shot kills. It's fun but it gets boring, especially in Infected.

Right now? Probably COD. November 6 and after? Probably Halo. I've favored COD games recently but I honestly think Halo 4 will take the crown this year. Although it still has its flaws, I thought MW3 pretty much maxed out that engine and did a great job fixing the problems MW2 had (worst COD game ever, imo). I just don't see anything substantially different this year from BO2. If anything the new futuristic theme it has deters me. And I agree with many of you, Zombies is getting completely overwhelming and boring since World at War. I wish I could make a case for Reach the past couple years but it felt uninspired over time (the first few weeks were awesome though). Bungie basically admitted they were tired of Halo. It just didn't have an addictive progression system like COD and tended to favor trolls, and rightfully so as it was Bungie's going away party and it would have been ridiculously crazy to try things like ordinance drops. Anyway, I'm excited to see Halo going in a fresh new direction. I think 343 will overcompensate on some things and make some mistakes, but I will give them a pass and welcome them as an awesome new Halo-maker.

Because mate, its not necessarily unrealistic just because its set in the future, as because it hasn't happened yet, it is entirely possible.
CoD on the other hand, is not, I mean, how can you die instantly from a knife to the finger?

Hey, I read this thread while browsing the IGN site, and thought I would throw my 2 cents in. (hopefully without being flamed for never having posted on these forums before).

I've played a LOT of the Halo games and the CoD games since CoD 4, and honestly think that you can't compare them in such a simple question as "which is better Halo or CoD?". They're both great series of games. Both series had their ups and downs, but they're both equally enjoyable, just different.

Halo's gameplay gives a fair gunfight to both parties on most engagements which is good and weapons spawn on timers, giving advantage to experienced players, and CoD requires you to make sure you have the advantage in each gunfight you get into (be it through weapon knowledge or map knowledge, which I think is also good, both reward experienced players equally and if you know what you're doing in either game you will do well.

Both series also have problems:
Halo:
-Takes a long time to find games.
-Lag.
-People crouch walking with sword.
-People cursing you out, who should know better.
CoD:
-Getting put into a losing game
-LAAAAAGGG
-Noobtubers
-Campers
-People cursing you out know don't know any better.
-OP'd Killstreaks (Personally I'd disagree, I think they're a good addition and a reward for playing well)

Personally I have both Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 on pre-order, and can't wait to play both.

OP, you are retarded. You need to make better arguments in which game is better. Pointing out one small detail about the games is not going to get your point across. It takes five shots with ONE weapon in halo whilst in CoD it takes two shots with a bunch of weapons. Blops 2 also has a medal system.

I Prefer the Halo series in general but Call of Duty can have its moments, like yes they do have a bigger fan base due they listen to there audiences much more and give them what they want, i'm not saying Halo doesn't but bungie went wrong with Halo after Halo 3, Reach was poor design and simply lacked skill and just gave the simply system of credits which failed horribly, Halo is more out of this world literally it gives a more fun experience in a shooter and so its much more interesting, but for those who like the soldiers view on war then Call of Duty is good for them :)

Both good games but Halo is my first love for the FPS genre <3 and I am way more a HALO fan than COD Add me on Xbox and we can roll noobs over together " Like a train" iWrath17
