How to get Applin and evolutions Flapple and Appletun in Pokémon Go

Applin and Flapple and Appletun, its two evolutions, from Gen 8 can now be caught in Pokémon Go.
The inspiration for Applin is very, very, obvious. After all, doesn't an Applin a day keep Team Rocket away? Its evolutions depict what could happen to such a tasty apple - Appleton the good ending where it becomes a delicious pie, while Flapple is the fark timeline where the fruit becomes overrun by a worm. Either way, all three Pokémon retain their Grass and Dragon-typing. You can also now evolve Applin into Dipplin in Pokémon Go, which can then be evolved into Hydrapple.

How to get Applin in Pokémon Go
Applin made its first appearance in Pokémon Go during April 2025 as part of the Sweet Discoveries event.
Here's how you can catch Applin during this event:
- Picking up apples
- Pay-to-play Timed Research
As you can see the main way you can catch Applin is by doing one simple thing - picking up apples. We have a whole guide covering apples in Pokémon Go, so take a look there if you want to learn more.
For here, we'll point out that you simply need to press on the apples to pick them up. If you played Pokémon Go during its 2025 April Fools event, then you know what to do. Keep doing this and you're sure to gather up a good number of Applin encounters. If you'd like to increase the number of apples appearing around you, then head to a PokéStop during the Sweet Discoveries event and place down a Mossy Lure Module. This Lure Module will then ensure the land around the PokéStop sees more apples spawn until the module's duration ends.
As always, I will never out right recommend spending real world money on Pokémon Go. I will, however, point out that the pay-to-play Timed Research is an option. Just keep in mind that you must complete it before Tuesday 28th August at 8pm (local time). If you don't then the quest, along with its rewards, will expire and your money will have been wasted.
We highly recommend catching at least two Applins during Sweet Discoveries to ensure you can add both of its evolutions to your Pokédex. At the time of writing, we can't say how frequent a spawn Applin will be. Hopefully the apples will continue appearing after Sweet Discoveries ends, but it's best to catch Applin while it's ripe. (Get it? Good. I hate myself.)

How to evolve Applin into Flapple and Appletun in Pokémon Go
The evolution requirements for Applin in Pokémon Go differ depending on which evolved form you're aiming for. If you want to evolve Applin into Flapple, then you need 200 Applin Candy and 20 Tart Apples. Meanwhile, evolving Applin into Appletun requires 200 Applin Candy and 20 Sweet Apples.
You can also evolve your Applin into Dipplin by using 20 Syrupy Apples and 200 Applin Candy. After this, Dipplin can be evolved into Hydrapple through the use of 400 Applin Candy and by catching seven Dragon-type Pokémon while Dipplin is your buddy.
If you're aiming for all four evolutions, this means you need 1,000 Applin Candy, 20 Syrupy Apples, 20 Tart Apples and 20 Sweet Apples in total.
As you can see Applin requires quite the amount of candy for its evolutions, so it's best to always use a Pinap Berry when attempting to catch it to double the amount of candy you'll earn. We don't recommend relying on Pinap Berries alone though. You can earn additional Applin Candy by having one as your buddy and transferring any spare Applins you might have during events with double transfer bonuses. Applin is also a good candidate for Rare Candy, especially if you're only one or two away from that 200 goal.

Are shiny Applin, shiny Flapple and shiny Appletun in Pokémon Go?
Yes, shiny Applin, shiny Flapple and shiny Appletun are in Pokémon Go. These three shiny forms, alongside shiny Dipplin and shiny Hydrapple, were released in September 2026 as part of the Harvest Festival: Applin Picking event.
While these shiny forms are green, I actually like them because its a thematic. The change from red to green gives the idea that these Pokémon are based on green apples rather than red and I do quite like that. (But I still stand by my general dislike for green shiny forms.)
Where are Dipplin and Hydrapple in Pokemon Go?
Dipplin and Hydrapple are now in Pokémon Go. They were added to the game as part of the Harvest Festival event in September 2025.
Just like in The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet where these Pokémon were added to Gen 9, you'll need to collect Syrupy Apples to evolve Applin into Dipplin. After doing this, you'll have to complete a different evolution requirement to evolve your Dipplin into Hydrapple. Yes, it's a lot of work but it's worth it if you want to add these Pokémon to your Pokédex.
