The Home Sweet Home quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a very strange time, and honestly, perhaps one of the best quests in the game if you take the time to fully explore this looping, nightmarish sequence of events that repeatedly replicate the beginning of the game.

To make sure you don't miss anything, you'll find my The Blood of Dawnwalker Home Sweet Home quest walkthrough below, which details how to escape the nightmare, as well as how to unlock a secret ending that's tied to the quest.

Starting the Home Sweet Home quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker

To start the Home Sweet Home quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, visit the Silts Tower at nighttime. This is in the southwest corner of your map, directly south of the Turtle Rock Shrine, and shown on the map below.

Enter the tower, and use Focus Mode to scope out the area. Loot away, and inspect the items here to start gaining some insight as to who is residing in the tower. Next, go downstairs and clear out the workers here, then continue investigating – and looting – the area.

There's a cave down here, but don't bother going through it right now. It'll take you back outside of the tower and straight to a Ravenous Bear. Instead, start making your way to the top of the tower and prepare to clear out some soldiers along the way.

At the top of the tower, you'll meet Svetlana, The Dark Prodigy. You'll need to defeat her and her witchcraft next, then claim the Vault Key from her corpse. Make sure to open the Vault in this room and loot the chest behind it before continuing further up the tower.

To enter the next floor of the tower, you'll need to consume four time segments. You can also peek inside the room and scope it out before you do this, but either way, choose to open the door, and you'll shortly kick off the Home Sweet Home quest.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Home Sweet Home quest walkthrough

After opening the door to the top of the Silts Tower, you'll find yourself transported back to the very beginning of the game, where Coen is in his home in Laslea with his family. Choose whichever dialogue option you please when speaking to Pieter.

Ultimately, you'll need to repeat some of the steps you completed at the beginning of the game now. These are as follows:

  1. Split logs for firewood.
  2. Enter the house and speak with your family. Choose any dialogue options.

As you sit down for breakfast with your family, an intruder will barge in and once again, Coen is tasked with rescuing his family (just as he was during the game's prologue).

Your map will be inaccessible currently. Proceed to head towards your quest marker just up ahead, where Esme will be surrounded by some Undead enemies that you must defeat.

After Coen sends Esme to the church, follow your quest marker again. Next, you'll need to save your siblings from a group of Vidmo enemies.

Up next, follow your quest marker to rescue your father, Pieter, from a rather formidable, gruesome-looking opponent: the Keeper of Nightmares.

This boss can fly, which makes attacking them rather annoying, but patience is a real virtue here. Wait until you're prompted to Omniblock the creature's attacks, and then use the brief opening afterwards to do some damage. Repeat this process while dodging its unblockable attacks, and continue to play it safe, and you'll eventually take this foe down.

Following the fight, choose whichever dialogue options you please with your father and while in the church. In the cutscene that follows, Coen's family is slain by the Keeper of Nightmares in the church, and as Coen goes through one of the church doors, he finds himself back home again. The dream sequence he is in has reset, and you'll now find yourself experiencing a Groundhog Day situation of sorts.

Now, there's two things you can do next, and these are as follows:

  1. Unlock a secret ending by completing the dream sequence multiple times in a row.
  2. Escape the dream sequence by investigating the well prior to the Keeper of Nightmares mini-boss.

For the sake of seeing everything that there is to see, I recommend saving your game here, unlocking the secret ending, then reloading a save and escaping the sequence so you can continue your playthrough. I'll run through how both options pan out below.

How to unlock The Blood of Dawnwalker's secret ending in Home Sweet Home

To unlock the secret ending tied to The Blood of Dawnwalker's Home Sweet Home quest, you'll need to run through the sequence multiple times.

After the first sequence is complete, you can skip chopping firewood and immediately talk to Esme. The intruder will appear once more, and you'll then need to defeat the gauntlet of enemies from earlier; the Undead, the Vidmo, and the Keeper of Nightmares.

On your fifth run of the sequence, tell Esme that 'We need to run' and her response will be different this time. What follows is an uncanny, secret ending in which Coen is trapped with this nightmarish clone of his family forever and ever.

Now, it's time to reload your save file from one of the earlier sequences and make your escape from the big, repetitive nightmare.

How to escape the loop in Home Sweet Home

To escape the loop in Home Sweet Home, you must have completed the sequence of events at least once. After Coen's family falls victim to the Keeper of Nightmares in the church and you're returned back home to start the sequence a second time, you can make your escape.

To do this, defeat the Undead and Vidmo enemies that are taunting Esme and your siblings. Then, do not go and fight the Keeper of Nightmares. Instead, go right in the area where you defended your siblings, and use Focus Mode to identify a well (shown below).

Interact with the well, and the sequence will change. There's a few things to do here first, then you'll be able to make your escape back to reality.

When speaking to the monster in the well, pick whichever dialogue options you please. Coen will be forced to mention his long lost brother, Alin, sooner or later.

Next, use Shadowstep to climb the walls covered in snow pictured below, then proceed into the cave. Use Shadowstep again to reach a mysterious portal at the end, and go through it.

You'll now find yourself at Alin's funeral in the church, except everyone present is a red ghost. Whenever the priest stops talking here, you need to interact with the person they're referring to. With this in mind, interact with the ghosts in the following order:

  1. Alin (the small coffin).
  2. Esme (standing beside the coffin).
  3. Coen (on the pew left of the coffin).

Coen's ghost will flee now. Follow him to reach another portal you can go through, then continue following him over to his hideout. Use Focus Mode to investigate the area, and inspect the skates atop the wooden tree stump here for a brief cutscene.

Afterwards, the path to the west is cleared. Head there next to reach the cliff-edge, the Clawride your way down to the river. Up ahead, you'll be reunited with Alin, and can choose whichever dialogue options you please.

Following the harrowing albeit healing cutscene for Coen, he finally wakes up from his nightmare, and you'll be in the basement of the Silts Tower.

The Home Sweet Home quest will now be completed, and you can make your exit via the cave on your right!
