Minecraft: How to get Cushions

Minecraft's Cushions are one of the Wilderness Bound update's big new features, and they're incredibly versatile. Cosy campfire seating? Cushions can do that. Mossy spots around trees and in damp places? They can do that, too. Fake water for decorative ponds? I mean, you can get real water pretty easily, but sure, Cushions can also do that.

The point is, Cushions are way more versatile than you might think from just hearing the word "cushion". If you plan on placing a lot of Cushions around your Minecraft world, just make sure you've got plenty of wool on hand and a solid production line for getting more.

The Cushion crafting recipe is, like all recipes, unlocked automatically in Creative Mode, though you'll need to track down a Cushion in Survival Mode to unlock it. In this guide, we'll show you where to find the Cushion crafting recipe in Minecraft and what you need to craft them.

How to get the cushion crafting recipe in Minecraft

Like with other crafting recipes, the Cushion recipe unlocks once you bust a Cushion block and collect it. Abandoned Campsite locations tend to have several Cushions lying about, usually by the campfire, so that's your best bet for where to look. In our experience, Abandoned Campsites spawn in forested areas. They can appear in any forested area, not just the update's new Dappled Forest biome.

They stand out thanks to their unique construction, as the tents are made of the new Wool Steps item. You can dye those steps any color, but seeing as white is the default, it's hard to miss even if you're flying.

Speaking of dye, unlocking quite a few dye recipes before you get your Cushion manufacturing underway is a good idea, too. Dyes make it easier to change Cushion color without having to use more wool, so you can repurpose instead of making new.

How to craft Cushions in Minecraft

The Cushion crafting recipe requires three Wool Slabs. You can use any colour Wool Slab you want, and the resulting Cushion will match the colour of the wool. However, all three slabs must be the same colour, or you can't craft the Cushion.

If you want to change the colour of a Cushion after making it, but don't have the right colour of wool or don't want to dye the wool, just put the cushion in the crafting screen next to whatever colour dye you want to use, and boom. New Cushion in your desired color.
