Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough: All regions and collectibles
The ultimate companion for any Mortal Shell 2 player
Update - 23/09/2026: Added our Part 25: Forgotten Tower walkthrough to the hub.
Mortal Shell 2 is one of the very best of its genre, in my opinion as a veteran Souls player. It's got all the grit and confidence of a true soulslike, and a haunting world that's truly exciting to uncover - in a way that only a few open-world games can match. But as you may expect, the brutal combat, labyrinthine pathways, and obtuse moon logic questlines all combine to make this a pretty challenging game to complete - let alone 100%.
That's where we come in. This page contains the entirety of Rock Paper Shotgun's Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough, from start to finish. I'll guide you step by step through every major area on the map, highlighting collectibles, weapons, bosses, questline instructions, and more along the way. My intention is for this guide to be the definitive place to go for new players (or returning Harbingers) looking to 100% Mortal Shell 2 and have the most fun possible while doing it.
Mortal Shell 2 plants you behind the eyeless mask of the Harbinger - a creature guided by the godlike UnderMether to recover her Ova. Why? To try to cleanse the world of the corruption left behind by a dark and powerful being known only as the "Passenger", which journeyed to the world inside the UnderMether herself. The Harbinger can possess fallen mortal heroes - known as Shells - which grant the Harbinger access to various abilities, much like classes in other RPGs. But here, the Harbinger can switch between the different Shells at any point in the game.

| Order | Walkthrough | Details |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prologue | In the Prologue of Mortal Shell 2, you'll be introduced to the Harbinger and your first Shell, Harros. You'll also need to fight your way through a number of Wretches and Brigands to reach the first major boss of the game, which stands between you and the Marrow Keep. |
| 2 | Widow's Overlook | Widow's Overlook is your starting point within the land of Fainweald to the north of Marrow Keep. This part of the guide will give you your first map parts, a brand new Shell, a potent optional boss, and a great many hidden collectibles. |
| 3 | Mushroom Village | Mushroom Village, east of Widow's Overlook, holds many secrets. It's also home to a couple of questlines, and more than a few new enemy types. You'll need to battle through them all carefully to reach your first legacy dungeon. |
| 4 | Sunken Village | The Sunken Village lies inside the Glutted Mire, and is the first legacy dungeon you'll explore in Mortal Shell 2. Inside, one of the key bosses of the game awaits you from the safety of her corrupted grove... |
| 5 | Flooded Village | You're probably tired of the various submerged villages by now, but this one's a nice quick detour. This section shows you how to open up the Flooded Village dungeon and obtain a powerful new sidearm. |
| 6 | Blackridge Cliffs | The Blackridge Cliffs form passages between many different regions of Fainweald, and now it's time to conquer them all for their treasures - among which are a new Shell and a brand new primary weapon! |
| 7 | Gloomshade Grove | Next up is the Gloomshade Grove, a place dominated by Skulks, Brigands, Vestiges, and even a Grisha. It leads to the mighty Citadel Of Penance, but there's a lot to discover in the Grove itself, including two new weapons! |
| 8 | Holding Cells | The Holding Cells dungeon bridges the Blackridge Cliffs and the Gloomshade Grove, and is accessible from either side - but we'll take you through it from the Blackridge side all the way to its end. Beware: the boss of this dungeon is very tricky! |
| 9 | Citadel Of Penance | The compact Citadel Of Penance, located in the very northwest corner of Fainweald, is home to a multitude of Brigands, a mighty boss, and a brand new Shell that's ripe for the taking. Follow this guide to 100% the Citadel with ease. |
| 10 | Desolate Peak | The Desolate Peak is home to a rather funny and confusing quest (with a familiar face for any Mortal Shell 1 veterans), and a tricky dungeon to puzzle your way through. Here's everything you need to know! |
| 11 | Ruins Of Nochte | The vastness of the Ruins Of Nochte can be offputting at first, containing the expansive Hag's Path, Prophet's Rest, and the Ruins themselves. This carefully plotted path will guide you through the entire region, culminating in the unlocking of your second legacy dungeon. |
| 12 | Prisoners' Domain | The Prisoners' Domain is your second legacy dungeon, the gateway to which is found in deep in the Ruins Of Nochte. It's easy to get lost in this region, and it's also not easy to find your way to the main boss of the dungeon (who is probably the toughest foe you've faced so far). Plenty of challenge awaits you here, but I'll walk you through it step by step! |
| 13 | Temple Of Vatra | Now it's time to complete our map of Fainweald with a trip east, to the One-Legged Wolf Tavern and the Temple Of Vatra. A new Shell awaits you in this part, as well as the iconic Troubadour's Lute Sidearm! |
| 14 | Stones Of Remembrance | The Stones Of Remembrance are the only major region left to uncover in Fainweald, and it's very easy to get lost among all those winding pathways. Follow these steps to explore 100% of the region. |
| 15 | Sanguine Caverns | It's time to conquer the final major boss of Fainweald, found deep within the Sanguine Caverns. This is the name given to both the north region of Fainweald and the legacy dungeon it contains - and this step of the walkthrough will guide your way through both. |
| 16 | Desolate Keep | The Desolate Keep, hidden behind an illusory wall inside the Marrow Keep itself, is scaled higher than anywhere in Fainweald - which is why we've left it until now to tackle. Prepare for secrets hidden with secrets with this intriguing dungeon! |
| 17 | Outskirts Of Mammon | At last it's time to set foot in the lands to the south, beginning with the Outskirts Of Mammon. You'll find many Bone Gates to other regions here, but we'll ignore them all for now and completely expunge this starting area of enemies and collectibles. |
| 18 | Deserted Slums | The Deserted Slums to the west of the Outskirts Of Mammon must be passed through in order to reach this area's legacy dungeon. It's a twisting series of pathways which hide numerous dungeons, a boss, and a heavy-hitting new weapon. |
| 19 | High Lord's Keep | The High Lord's Keep is the area to the west of the Deserted Slums. While it may not seem worthy of note - it doesn't take too long to complete - it's actually home to a couple of very unique dungeons, and a new Shell. |
| 20 | Lonesome Spire | The Lonesome Spire again may not take long to fully explore, but it does contain a couple of unique things: namely, a new boss, a new Sidearm, and the continuation of a certain NPC's questline! |
| 21 | Withered Shoals | Having cleansed the rest of this western region of Mammon, it's now time to unlock the area's legacy dungeon: the Withered Shoals. One of the mightest bosses of the game awaits you within... |
| 22 | Castigator's Keep | Heading southeast of the Lonesome Spire brings you into a new region - the Vestige Of Infinity - which we'll then use to kickstart our exploration of Castigator's Keep. A new Sidearm awaits! |
| 23 | The Silent Steps | The Silent Steps is staunchly defended by some nasty enemies, but it's well worth the effort to battle your way to the Chamber Of Becoming at the top. In one fell swoop, you'll acquire two new weapons and your penultimate Shell. |
| 24 | Faded Citadel | The fifth legacy dungeon of the game, the Faded Citadel is also likely the most challenging so far. Follow these steps to learn how to find everything within this region, and defeat the mighty boss at its finale. |
| 25 | Forgotten Tower | A tiny area to the northeast of the Silent Steps awaits us now. It won't take long to complete, but there's a great prize awaiting you at the end! |
| 26 | Revenant Graves | Coming soon! |
| 27 | Sester's Refuge | Coming soon! |
| 28 | Conquered Temple | Coming soon! |
| 29 | Nighttime Cleanup | Coming soon! |
| 30 | The Unfound Path | Coming soon! |
