Iconoclasm is the seventh and final campaign mission in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, sending you to where the Witness was made to stop his plans. As some players were finding it tricky to defeat the Iconoclasm mission on Legendary difficulty, here's a handy guide on how to complete it all by yourself.
Iconoclasm Walkthrough
As you make your way towards the Fortress, you’ll be beset by a large wave of smaller Taken enemies. Your goal is the small entrance off to the bottom left.
Ahead is another Rally Banner and a large wave of Taken. They’ll spawn a fair distance from you, so you use that to your advantage before they get too close. At the end will be a Tormentor and a few Bound enemies- there are Prismatic Wellsprings to the right and left of the barrier, which you can use on the Bound before using your Super on the Tormentor. On the other side of the barrier, you’ll be rewarded with a Prismatic Chest.
As you push through the temple, you come outside at the other end, and a small hill will lead you downwards towards an exit on the left.
As soon as you enter, you’ll start slowly taking damage. Run past the barrier and go up the hill, shooting the dark ball in front of you. This will shield you from the darkness, letting you sprint through the area until you safely come out the other side.
Here you’ll find an eerie room full of dead Ghosts, and a small lecture from the Witness in your ear. Press on, and you’ll find a Rally Flag.
As soon as you drop down, you’ll be beset by both regular and Bound enemies. Open up with your super right away to cut through their numbers, and then shoot the floating lock once you’ve mopped up the rest. More of the dark orbs will spawn, and once you shoot one, you can drop into the hole in front of the statues.
There will be two Hive Knights at the bottom; both of which will drop Glyphs you will need to open the barrier up top, while also refreshing your Darkness Shield by blasting the orbs. Once both Knights are down, take the portal back up to face Eshkin’Tuk, Witness’s Blessed. Focus on the smaller enemies first, and then use the lower cover to poke at the massive knight, shuffling around the room if need be.
Once the boss dies, there will be a hallway to your left past the barrier. Follow it and then take the portal at the end, also on the left. You’ll have to hop across a gap, then crouch through a tunnel, and jump one more time to reach a room of statues.
Once you move past the room, you’ll be outside again, and a few more jumps will lead you to Dolgith, Blade of Reasoning. Breaking his shield is a multi-part mechanic consisting of:
- Transcending with the Wellspring to destroy the Taken Orbs on each side.
- Shooting the black orbs to gain the Shield of Darkness before you jump into the portal.
- KIll the Knights inside to retrieve their Glyphs.
- Use the correct Glyphs to summon the relic.
- Finally, absorb enough damage with the shield to fire its spear and break Dolgitth’s shield.
Start by Transcending and rushing the orbs. your grenades and melee ability will quickly destroy both enemies inside, then do the same to the other orb. Jump into the portal in the center of the room, and then hunt down the Knights with your heavy ammo, refiling your Darkness Shield as necessary.
When you come out, ignore the enemies and grab the glyphs, then the relic. As soon as it’s charged, shoot its shield-breaking projectile and immediately go into your super.
Do this once more, and you’ll be able to proceed.
Once you’re back outside, run up the stairs. You will appear to hit a dead end, but there is actually a stairwell hidden against the wall. Jump and make a sharp right to make it across.
Here you’ll need to follow the strict path, gradually climbing upwards while being careful not to fall. At the very top, you’ll find a small orange platform jutting out.
Go up the stairs and through the portal at the end. After jumping across the gap, there will be a small tunnel on your left you can crouch through.
Beyond the horse room, climb up on the faces on your left- one of the faces will be incomplete, and you can sneak through. Follow the staircase up; two left turns at the top will take you to another series of rooms, with a larger staircase at the center.
At the top is a recreation of the old Vanguard War Table, and the Witness will make one final attempt to persuade you before you continue. Beyond the War Table is the last Rally Banner of the Campaign, so be sure to stop there.
Beyond the door is The Witness, who will teleport away shortly, leaving you with the real final boss of the Expansion, Lenurae, Subjugator of Flexion.
Though the Witness will occasionally pop back with a long wind-up projectile, your primary focus is Lenurae.
Open up with your super to force her into her invulnerable shield phase. You’ll need to first shoot the dark orb on the left side to move past the barrier on the same side, where you can grab the shield.
After grabbing the shield, use its Super to break Lenurae’s shield. Instead of opening fire on it, run to the very edge of the Arena, and do not put the shield down. The Witness will conjure a large storm of Darkness, and it will kill you almost instantly if you don’t protect yourself. As soon as you see your own shield go down, hold out the relic the same way you used it to absorb damage before and don’t let go until the storm relents.
A sword will appear soon after, and you’ll need it to strike the lock in the center of the arena- once you do, interact with it to be teleported inside the Witness. After they finish speaking, destroy the statue that has cracks in it with the sword.
Finally, the Witness’ shield will go down, and you’ll need to repeat the process again, while also shooting the dark orbs scattered about to keep your Shield of Darkness up.
Now you’ll actually be able to damage Lenurae again, so use your Super again if you have it, otherwise your Heavy Weapon works as well. Break the shield, grab the Sword, and destroy another Witness statue.
Once you’re back outside, Lenurae will have a sliver of health - once it dies, take the sword and destroy another Witness statue once more. This time, however, the Witness will be wise to your tricks, and force you out of it, damaging you and your ghost heavily.
You’ll have no health here, so grab the shield and maintain your defense stance as you walk towards the exit. At the end of the path, Mara will transport you to safety, and the mission will complete.
