Hollow Knight Silksong walkthrough: Part 18 (Whiteward)
Time to make your way through one of Pharloom's most unsettling regions
Looking for a Whiteward walkthrough in Hollow Knight: Silksong? If you've been following along with our Silksong walkthrough so far, you're at a crossroads right now. Having explored the Choral Chambers, there are many, many different paths to take at this point - but our chosen way forward will be the unsettling Whiteward, because it brings us closer to our next movement skill: the Clawline.
In Part 18 of our Silksong walkthrough, we'll take you carefully through every part of the Whiteward region below the Citadel, showing you how to best everything you come across along the way, and the ideal path to take through it and down into the Underworks.

Whiteward walkthrough steps:
- Unlock the entrance to the Whiteward.
- Obtain the Choral Commandment.
- Reach the Spool Fragment beneath the elevator.
- Obtain the Silkeater.
- Obtain the Whiteward Map.
- Loot the Injector Band.
- Drop down into the Underworks.
1. Unlock the entrance to the Whiteward.
If you've followed along with every step of our walkthrough so far, you should already have obtained the White Key, just to the right of the First Shrine entrance in Songclave. If not, go do that now.
After that, the quickest path to the Whiteward is to fast travel to the Choral Chambers Ventrica Station, and then head all the way to the right, as far as you can go. You'll eventually come across a large elevator with a keyhole in a pedestal in front of it. Interact with the pedestal to unlock the gate.
Before you go down, cross through the elevator and you'll find a (partially occupied) Bench on the other side - a very convenient rest point before you delve further into this new and disturbing region.
2. Obtain the Choral Commandment.
Ride the elevator down to the bottom, and gird your loins for scary times. This is the Whiteward, where the Citadel performed unspeakable Silk-based experiments on Pilgrims, and left the results to rot.
Cross all the way over to the left, and you'll come across another pedestal with a keyhole. This one needs a different key - the Surgeon's Key - which we don't currently have. So head beyond it for now, but make a mental note of it for later.
At the end of the path, climb upwards and you'll reach a room of steam vent tunnels to get through. You can either take the ground-level path into the larger room, or climb up and over that room to drop down on the other side; either way makes little difference. On the left-hand side of the room, you'll see a pram with an item in it. Loot it for a Choral Commandment.
After looting the Choral Commandment, a new enemy will ambush you as you walk to the right. This is a Dreg Husk, and while it may look nightmarish, you're entirely safe just staying under it and slashing upwards, so it's not that scary really.
3. Reach the Spool Fragment beneath the elevator.
Head to the right-hand side of the room and slash through the various breakable walls until you find a lever. Slash that too, and you'll unlock a path back into the elevator shaft you travelled down, along with a path to the other side.
Before you go across though, climb all the way up the elevator shaft to the top again. For this next bit, you must act fast. Press a pressure plate to call the elevator upwards, and then immediately drop down to the midway point you just came from, and duck into either the left or the right side.
Wait for the elevator to pass you, and then drop all the way to the bottom, where the elevator was before. This is the easiest way to reach a secret section just below the elevator's ground level, where you can collect a Spool Fragment.
4. Obtain the Silkeater.
Climb back up to the halfway point of the elevator shaft, and enter the right-hand passage. Head straight across and destroy the breakable wall at the far end.
In this next room, climb up the far-right wall and you'll find a Silkeater egg at the top, partially hidden by foreground shadow. Obtain the Silkeater, and then double back out of the room.
5. Obtain the Whiteward Map.
Next, drop down the hole beside the wall you broke. On the left, you'll see a little dome structure you can interact with to gain a map of the Whiteward. You'll need to pay 70 Rosaries for it, but it's always worth getting a region map as early as possible.
6. Loot the Injector Band.
From the map model, head into the room to your right, and past the furnaces. Along the way, you'll be attacked by another horrible new creature - a Mortician. These nasty foes like to charge you, but also like to leap (which, as you might imagine, buggers your attempts to jump over them a lot of the time). Take them on carefully, and don't be afraid to use tools to make the fight easier.
Once you've killed it, jump over the spikes to the right, and you'll find another Mortician waiting for you. Kill (or bypass) this one too, and reach the end of the hallway. Here, too, a Mortician is lying in wait - but you don't need to fight this one, because your path is above. Climb the ledge above you, and then head to the left.
At the end of this path, beyond the spikes, you can loot the item on the floor to obtain the Injector Band. This is one of the most useful tools you'll find in Silksong in my opinion. All it does is speed up your Bind (heal) animation, but that alone makes it a very powerful tool that I'll always include in my build going forward.
7. Drop down into the Underworks.
From the Injector Band, head back and jump over the gap you climbed up, then follow the right-hand path. Drop down the slim, orange-lit gap, and quickly jump over to the right, because the ground where you land is covered in hot coals.
Drop down into the room below, and attack the wall on your left (at ground level) to reveal a tiny secret passage containing some Rosary Beads. But beware - you'll be ambushed and cornered by a Giant Drapemite as you proceed into the passage. Keep jumping and Pogo-ing over it at the end of the passage to make the fight easier.
Once that's dealt with, return and drop further down past all the spinning blades. You are now in the Underworks, and beyond the reach of that awful Whiteward - for now.
What about that locked door from before?
That's all we can explore in the Whiteward for the time being - now it's time to work through the Underworks region and finally unlock our next movement ability. For help in this next region, look no further than Part 19 of our Silksong walkthrough!
